To all the members of this forum it is my great honor to announce that Larry “Designman” Renger was elected to the AMA Hall of Fame. Last night at a party hosted by Warren and Ramona Walker, and attended my many of Larry’s friends, Warren read the letter from the AMA announcing Larry’s selection to the Hall of Fame.
Larry is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, worked in rocket design for a while before following a career in his life long passion model airplanes. As a design engineer at Cox hobbies he was responsible for the design of several engine including the Venom and Black Widow. He also has designed a number of planes both control line and radio control. Larry‘s aircraft designs have been published in magazine articles as well as being released in kit and ready to fly products. His knowledge and insight into the workings of 1/2A engines is legendary, knowledge he freely shares with fellow modelers. Larry also had a career at Mattel designing toys that both entertained and educated children.
For me, Larry is both a close friend and flying buddy. I hope you will all join me in congratulating Larry in this great achievement.

Larry and I have shared many flights with each others planes over the years,(I forced him to fly my last Saito 72 powered ship-Larry likes 1/2A jobs). His 1/2A Magician remains to this day, my all time favorite Renger design and IMHO, his absolute best flying ship,(it was killer, trust me).
Larry is still my main man!! Congratulations.

Congrats Larry. Well deserved.

What can I say but "Aw shucks!"
ps. when do I get the Ferrari and where are the groupies?

Hi Larry,
Congratulations. I can't think of a more deserving gentleman to receive this very prestigious award. y1
In answer to your questions: I'm sorry to say that the Ferrari is a plastic model Revel kit, and the worse news is that "We" are your groupies! I know you were expecting more. ..... Maybe we could send you two tickets to Disneyland? ;-)
You do get a very nice, large plaque and the admiration of all your many friends. And a big thank you from all the thousands of modelers that you have helped over the years. :-)
Warm Regards, H^^

That is well deserved recognition for a sustained job well done. Congrats also to the HOF committee for having the pressence of mind to recognize excellence, accomplishment and class.

Congratulations Larry. Now when my tuna-pipe plane gets beat by your 1/2A design at least I can say: "What do you expect?, the guy's in the AMA Hall of Fame!" 8)
-
Congratulations Larry. You have been very gracious in letting me fly your 1/2A designs at the California contests and you are one of the nicest people I know. You certainly deserve to be in the AMA Hall of Fame.

Hey Larry; Dale Kirn came back to Kansas for his grandaughters wedding at our church today. I told him the good news about you being in the AMA Hall of Fame, and he was really excited to hear that, and happy for you.

Thanks guys, and a GIANT thank you is due to Warren Walker who speaheaded the effort to get me in, and Charles Mackey who provided invaluable advice on how to make the pitch! #^ ~> ;D H^^

Now I spose we're gonna have to show you some respect....

Congratulations Larry! Well deserved.
FYI .. in case anyone missed it .. Larry's article in the Dec. 1997 Model Airplane News titled 3D Wing Loadings was a landmark, at least for me. A true classic and a big part of the reason Larry builds better flying small models than just about anyone else. Here is the article online: http://homepage.mac.com/kmyersefo/CWL/larry.htm

I tip my hat to you Larry... way to go. H^^
Any way we can see some photos of planes and stuff by LR?

The AMA will post a biography on their website. You can find ALL the HOF dudes with their biographies there. Well worth the trip down memory lane. Do a search. I found some of the stories fascinating! Also, some notables who are missing. I think my club will try to remedy the ones we can submit as candidates.
My biogaphy will include a 3-page bibliography of the stuff I kitted or published. If any items are of interest to you, I should be able to provide more documentation on request. About a dozen of the models will appear in photographs with captions along with a biography. Give me a clue as to what you would like to see, and I will happily provide the best info I have. I have most of the magazine articles, and can get the magazine columns (that's 60 columns, so don't ask for them all! I don't even have copies readily available)
In addition, there is always a brief blurb in Model Aviation. I don't have a clue when or the content.
The official ceremony will be at the Charles Mackey Contest banquet on Saturday, November 13th in the middle of the Mackey contest. Lucky me, I am also the subject of the annual roast this year. Like Salome said to John the Baptist: "I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that I will dance for you........"

Congratulations Larry, and thank you for all the help and advice you have given me in the short time I have known you.
Best Regards
