Beginner and Intermediate Huntersville video
« on: May 05, 2015, 08:36:29 PM »
Probably boring for most of you but I'm sure the guys who flew it want to see it.

Mike, nice video! I am sure the guys that flew appreciate it. I wish I had vids of my first beginner and intermediate flights to watch today, as I remember they made quite a few people scratch their head .

Thanks for posting, Mike. As a rank beginner, I appreciate being able to watch what other's in my position are doing.

I loved the dance the first flyer did after landing. I recall doing the very same one after surviving my first beginner contest flight. Thanks for the posting.

The pilots are as follows:

00:00  Dave Wenzel - Beg

03:05  Mike Londke - Beg flt#1

06:07  Brian Malin - Int flt#1

10.38  Wayne Robinson - Int flt#1

15:50  Rusty Knowlton - Int flt#1

20:26  Mike Londke - Beg flt#2... The Rusty award for most photogenic plane

23:16  Rusty Knowlton - Int flt#2... after the wind shifted to the good side for flying, not so much for watching

Wayne came back with a full compliment of fuel and kicked our asses in his second flight

Mike, I'm glad you weren't flying beginner when I was. Very clean work. Better basics than I do now.

Thanks for posting those flights. And thanks Robert for the camera work.

Great video and I hope you all had fun doing it.  Now for each of you to watch and see where you need improvement.  Like counting laps and maneuver sequence.  You also are winners for being there and flying.

Thanks Robert. With all that videoing, did you not get your Basic Flight in camera? Working yourself up to beginner. Good luck.

Next time we'll get two cameras on the sideline so if the wind moves the stunts we can still get all the action. I'm getting a tripod for mine so we'll be all setup.
I enjoyed meeting you , see you in October,

Haha me too. That was Dave Wenzel in his first contest flight ever. He's graduated from judging to piloting. Maybe he'll give us more sympathy points when the wind makes us zigzag now lol... Just kidding, Dave! Good work.

I keep thinking that field has a swoop to it...is that an optical illusion? Due to the curved bare dirt to the right, or wide angle camera lens?

Whoever had that red plane...that looked awesome!

Rusty's yellow Ornamental does have a really soft turn. Let's work on that, Rusty! Is the pushrod bending, nose heavy, thrust line whacked, incidence whacked, what?   ??? Steve

That red plane was Mike Londke's, really pretty in the sunlight.
The field is flat, but we were tripping on rocks underfoot in the center. I have the Ornamental balanced a little aft of the ARF booklet, and CF pushrods, but the hinges aren't sealed. That fisheye lens on the Gopro robbed us of defining shapes when we switched sides of the field and were doing stunts right over the camera. Are you seeing the same thing in my flight at 15:50? That last one at 23:46 looks horrible and I've been blaming it on the distorted view... I hope so anyway.
Rusty

EDIT: Yeah, I just looked again, the field is not a bowl, it's the lens.

Maybe it's the GoPow (sic) lens, then. Get those hingelines sealed, Mister!

Ah, so it's Mike's red plane. Looks well trimmed, well powered and well flown! Looks to be flying much slower than the others, harder corners, better shapes. Bear in mind that I watched the video yesterday, and my memory isn't always wonderful...  LL~ Steve

Mike does fly very nice stunts. He makes better shapes in the basic maneuvers than I do. I'll have my hands full with him in the mix in October.

I'm going to fly it like it is at the Bob Shaw, and then make any changes like taping the hinge lines. Otherwise the plane is stout and aligned well. 45 ounces including the one oz. built into the tail. That's one part of the hobby that I really am good at. But thanks for the advice, Steve.
