I just ordered the Top Flite Flite Streak. Is there a different Landing gear that i can put on the plane i want two wheels not one.
-
There is but you have to bend it yourself. I cut a section out of the fuse. bottom just at the leading edge of the wing and glued in a hard wood block. A piece of motor mount works well about 2 inches long. The block needs to be grooved to fit the two wires with a hole for the wires to fit into towards the rear of the block. The fuse. is built up so expect to cut through into the open areas. The wires are bent just like the gear on Pat Johnston's Ringmaster. Maybe someone can post a picture of the plans I am not able to post one for some reason.

I've seen it done, but I don't know if there's gear out there ready to use.
I solved this problem by building a new fuselage, longer in both nose and tail. That's a bit extreme.
There seems to be a lot of profiles out there with aluminum gear that's bolted onto the side of the fuselage. I think that would work well on a 'streak.
This may work, but it looks like it's a bit big: http://brodak.com/2-piece-landing-gear-for-profile-planes.html (http://brodak.com/2-piece-landing-gear-for-profile-planes.html)

Flitestreaks take off and land very well on the single wheel gear.
-
Jim --- you are a lot better pilot then I am .... only way I could them off on the single wheel was full up ... roll out of maybe 6" ... landing no problem but they nose over in tall grass. We found the best way was no gear just hand launch.

They nose over in grass with two wheels, too.
I suppose that putting two-wheel gear on one of those is a bit over the top, but if you're flying it in competition (it's not a bad plane for beginner to starting intermediate CLPA) having two-wheel landing gear is probably worth a few points every flight for the more graceful takeoffs and landings that it enables, particularly if you're flying off of pavement or really short grass.

Hi Andrew,
Eric Rule at RSM has an aluminum bolt on gear that is great for Flite Streaks, Ringmasters, and the like. Call him and he will fix you up!

You can also buy an unbent 15 inch L/G and cut it in half and bend your own. Not very difficult to do.

Im headed to the hobby shop tomorrow. Im gonna by the materials and bend my own landing gear. What thickness material should i use/ 1/8 or 3/16?

I'd say .080" to .093" would be about right for an ARF FS. A good LHS might have SIG LG blanks (flat), which could be narrowed if too stiff or too heavy. If your FS was from an old TF kit, then .093" to .100" thick would work. Most commercial LG's are from 6061T6, if that helps. Avoid sharp bends, of course. D>K Steve

1/8 flat aluminum is way overkill. 1/8" diameter music wire is about right, but you have to work harder to make it work.

One wheeled gear can be more of a problem in grass, then 2 wheel gear. When the grass was on the high side on our field I got my lines snagged on my one wheeled streak more than once. If, on take off, the inside wing tipped down at all, grass snag, followed by plane motoring towards me. Two wheel gear made that less likely. I use aluminum gear on all my profiles these days. Buy the blanks, buy them ready made, or figure out how cut them yourself. If you're up to it, cut a new fues for the top flight ARF. Trace the fues outline on a decent piece of 1/2inch balsa, then lengthen the nose and tail moment some, if you want a slight slower handling plane, better suited to stunt. The ARF fues is a hollow piece that is poorly engineered. Almost no strength in the nose section. Every one of those I've seen eventually broke the nose off. Sometimes quite spectacularly. Wait a minute. I forgot. I've a one wheeled jr Streak that has flown season after season on one wheel. But that plane is way overpowered and takes off at 45 degrees, no take off roll at all.

These work very well on the flite streak and probably other planes in this range. Fit perfect and are light. I heve to put a piece of 1/8 wood for a spacer so the tank doesn't hit a screw. Whatever you do tou will have to bush the hole with hard barss tubing because once you drill into the nose you will find out that it is hollow.

Your best bet on the Flite Streak is a pair of wing-mounted landing gears. The engine department is already over-crowded with the sparse tank space. wing gears give the best takeoff and landings.
-
The lightning streak gear should do the job as well just fine. T.J.
-
Really though, the best gear for a flite streak is no gear at all.

Sig Fazer aluminum gear works perfectly on ARF 'Streaks, and basically all other .25 and up profile models. y1 y1 y1
For reference here is a set shown on my Shark 402, a model essentially the same size as the ARF 'Streak...

Problem solved. i went to the hobby shop and bought the material and made my own landing gear.
