What is everybody using for Laquer thinner? My old standby was Dupont or Carmax 3602S.
After doing an internet search nobody locally carries it. Indy or California carries it at $50 shipping bringing the price to around $130 for one gallon. Ouch

Search here on the main forum and in the finishing section. there is a pretty recent thread in the finishing section. Choose your key words carefully. Many are using Kleen Strip from Lowes or Home Depot with good results. You need to read the ingredients. Some lacquer thinner i checked where I live simply says " Acetone" under the ingredients. It's gonna vary by state and state laws and regulations also. I bought some from a guy recently off FB Marketplace that had the same ingredients as Kleen Strip, but said "Brush Cleaner" on the can and was mostly in Spanish. it thins SIG dope just fine and my test sample has not changed a bit in 3 month of sitting on the shelf.

As Dan stated, Klean Strip works fine. However, you must use the high VOC formula. The low VOC formula turns to snot when mixed with dope.

That's right Larry....I should have mentioned that on my earlier post.
Usually the back of the can in the upper right says 'high VOC formula' or something close to that.
No mention at all means that it's the wrong stuff.
I checked all the big box stores and Wal Mart has the lowest price.
But.....regardless where you get that Kleen Strip lacquer....check the top.
On one can I bought, the metal ring that the plastic lid screws onto....popped out of the top of the can....leaving a huge hole.
It must have been a bad crimp.
Fortunately I had another Kleen Strip can and that saved the day.

I really like the Kleen Strip but I recently had the handle fall off in my hand on a gallon....never saw that before. I think they are spot welded.

Kleen Strip is working for me! It seems the "orange label" stuff is what works best. The "brown label" is all that's available at the 'Po in my neighborhood. I get the orange label stuff from Amazon.

I haven't checked the paint stores and auto parts stores around here, recently for this, but it became hard to find years ago in some parts of the country, It was on one of Windy's videos years ago where I first heard him report that they couldn't get it in New Jersey and it was replaced with a 3608W that did not work at all. And add in that DuPont is now Axalta and I'm sure things have changed a lot!! In my research it does depend a lot on the state sometimes. I used to use 3608S a lot but haven't had to buy any in a long time. I just don't think its' available everywhere like it used to be.

A point I would like to add. Klean Strip lacquer thinner flashes of fairly quick. This means that with any kind of humidity, you can experience blushing. A splash of retarder will take care of this problem.

Been using Klean Strip for years. Works great!! I don’t find the blushing to be a big deal as I use auto clear. As soon as the clear goes over the blushing, it disappears
