Can get Yuriy Yatsenko's latest and greatest Retro Discovery .69 for about $280 USD. I'd much rather that over an LA46.

Much more powerful but also much heavier!!  Good engine but I wouldn't call it a replacement...far less flexible in application than the LA for stunt!

The Tower website says the RC version of the LA 46 has also been discontinued.  Maybe some of the RC versions can still be found elsewhere.

As far as the AXII goes, more power is nice, but is the greater weight too much of a penalty?  If not a good choice for our purposes in stock form, maybe the engine gurus can tell us if it is worth the effort to make the necessary modifications.

This is why the LA .46 is such a good engine,  one head gasket, nva and go flying, I've let my R/C club know, if anyone has one send it my way, fingers crossed.

Good thing I have about 20 of them in my engine draw! Been collection for a while. 

I have the latest catalogue from "Tower" so I decided to call them today for (9:00 AM, PST) info on these engines and "Voila" they NO longer have them..........well you know what they say in Russia "Toughschitski"

The greater weight penalty is certainly too much for the airplanes in the smaller group of classic airplanes that the LA could be very successfully used in (Nobler size airplanes), but on the bright side will fly airplanes in the 57+ oz, 650 sq in range without breaking a sweat.  The 55 AX is another great alternative for the larger airplanes in spite of it's weight.

Why would OS "fill the gap"? The R/C guys want ball bearings and a good idle, or they'll go electric. We don't figure
into OS' future at all. Get used .46 LAs and parts while you can. It doesn't look like ST will be making anymore G.51s,
either. We might be dragged into flying with electrons, kicking and screaming all the way.  Steve

If it is, it'll be more like the 40VF, where a 40 sized motor with a pipe powers a "60 sized" plane.

I don't want to say more because I've probably exhausted what I know and then overshot the mark to boot.  Fortunately there's a lot of them on eBay for reasonable prices, and there's always the option of using an electric motor while sticking a playing card into the prop disk for sound.

If this guy is able to find somebody to pay quadruple price for an LA46, good for him.  With millions of browsers he might get lucky.

There are still lots of good engines on The Bay for $50 or less.  A few may be worn out, but in my experience at least 90% are very low time or even zero time.  Many people buy the parts and never finish the project.

I can spot a worn out engine by the worn out verbage in the sell-job.
