Kwik cote, flight kote, tower kote and a few others were all the same with different stickers. They were a lot like Econo-kote. Low temp, stretchy works on foam. Find the lowest setting on you iron that will activate the glue. I covered a plane in that low temp stuff from Brodak and it's a constant pain to keep it tight. I would strip it off and put something good on there but I keep hoping I'll crash that thing so I don't have to. darn plane just keeps pulling out in time.
I haven't tried any of the current low-temp films, but (a very long time ago) I have used Econo-kote and Solar Film. Stripping it off might not be as easy as you think. I had the same sort of problems you describe, and when I went to strip it off, at least 50% of the adhesive/color separated from the film instead of from the wood, and it was a complete disaster to clean up.
After the first two airplanes like that, I just lived with it on the others, because there was no good way to get it off. Mine ended up with crashes which solved the problem as you describe.
