K&S SMG or 00?
« on: April 25, 2014, 09:41:33 AM »
Hello
Which is best for covering solid surfaces and fuselage? I was able to find some in a local hobby shop and would like to use it on my Dolphin.

Hi Michael,

The SGM on the open bays.  It is a bit tougher than the OO.  I agree, though, use polyspan on open bays if you have it.  MUCH less likely to get those pesky holes in it from hanger rash. ;D

Hello Michael
Like the guys said you can use SGM,Polyspan or SLC plastic covering.I have done a Ringmaster with SLC and I`m waiting to have it under the hot sun to see if it sags or bubbles since is the first time I use it. I have used Polyspan but if you don`t fill all the weave with 3 coats of clear you get some very obnoxious fuzzys,I think Bill Little told me to use CA on those spots and sand them.

Mike,

If you use SMG (Super Models Gas) on open wing bays be sure to apply it span-wise.

Tear a small corner piece that you are not going to use parallel to the edge in both directions. The smooth tear is span-wise. This will produce less sag as well as a lot more strength and tear resistance between ribs.

If it is a large plane you might want to consider a synthetic as others have mentioned.
