Here are the results and photos of our 2nd Annual Hollow Log Proto Speed race:
Hollow Log Proto Speed:
1st John Wright, 61.6 mph, 69.6 score Lil’Darlin’ model, Cox Reed engine
2nd Larry Renger, 56.30 mph, 66.3 score Golden Hawk model, Cox Venom engine
3rd Joel Chesler, 55.97 mph, 65.97 score Original Model, Cox Reed engine
4th Andy Borgogna, Dennis Coleman proxy flying, 50.12 mph, 56.12 score, Me-109 model, Renger prep Cox Reed engine (got a lousy engine run on the last half of his run, that baby was COOKING for the first part, better luck next time)
We were pleased to have Larry Rice, the man behind Black Hawk models present. He donated a couple of kits, one of which will be in the Holiday Raffle.
All the speed models were flown on club provided Spectra lines, so there was no possible conflict there. Choice of fuel and prop at the discretion of the pilot/pit crew.
3 rounds of speed flown. Weather was overcast and cool. Great for flying – no sun glare, no overheating.
Maybe make this a twice a year event? It really was fun. Thanks to Bob Werle for setting it up and pushing it forward.

Looks like a Brodak spinner, they make a small one for 1/2A's, 1-1/4".

To my favorite two Larrys in the world, yep that's the ticket. Alas I as not there to fly my ME-109 (I'm off the Bf-109 trip) but it was proxy flown by my friend Dennis Coleman. Renger I just want to know who did the needle setting on the second flight? Was it John or Joel? It's what I get for going on vacation for a month. I am glad the contest went well, I will be there next year with a new plane.
Tomorrow off to Georga, then home, oh God I miss my home. :'(
