Title: Know when to say when !!!
Post by: Leester on July 05, 2009, 08:12:01 AM
With a heavy heart I had to clean out several years of Balsa scraps :( :( I came to the realization I just wasn't going to use it all "someday". The container was completely empty when I started, luckely I'm on the road enough I'll be able to get my 1 bag of trash in there. The good news is I get to start a new collection  LL~ LL~ LL~

Don't feel bad. For years, I saved BALSA DUST. I had a whole kit box full of it..

Growing up poor might have something to do with it.

L.

PS - I see a few in that box that I'd still save.. ;->

Larry, I remember SIG selling BALSA DUST in little round cardboard containers. Used to mix with cement for fillets.

Leester, I feel your pain!  ::)

We have a scap box under our workbench.  The box is a Top Flite Score box and all the scrap we have completely fills the box up.  We now started another box for scrap but it is nowheres near as big as that.  We could probably build 2 or 3 airplanes if all that wood were in sheets and blocks

I would mistake it for a Berkeley kit ,except for the quality of the wood   ::)

You should have boxed it up in several boxes and listed it on the bay.  No telling how much you would have gotten for it.  Good luck on your cleanup. DOC Holliday LL~ LL~

Man, I built almost my entire last plane out of the scrap box. Shame it died, but that didn't have to do with using scraps to build it. Hmmm, maybe it did since the bellcrank that failed also came from the scrap pile.

I've done that too, one I called "Scraps", a 50" profile job. I have enough to do it again about now, but I've actually taken to digging through it all before I start cutting parts, many a rib and gusset have come from that box without violation of "the good wood" stash. But then, my wife says its about time to start using that good wood, otherwise she says she'll give it to all my freinds when I can't use it anymore. My problem? I keep buying "good wood" and saving scraps, I'm just funny that way.

Hmmm............ I have four boxes of *scrap* pieces......... I use them ALL the time.  I believe someone mentioned *growing up poor* in a post above........... ;D

(I didn't know anyone else had built planes from scrap box pieces! I guess i can admit it now. LL~ )

BTW: balsa dust has PLENTY of good uses!
