Little Richard
« on: December 05, 2007, 07:12:09 AM »
Does anyone from the Chicago area remember a plane called the "Little Richard"? It was from the 50' - 60's era. If so I would like to get a set of plans.

Ed,

There is a gentleman in his eighties who flies with Bud and the guys at Ned Brown, who brings out a couple of "Little Richards."  Some of the long-time
combat guys had commented on them.

I'll ask the guy who flies 'em if he still has the plans.  If so, Bud will get them to you.

I did not put that picture there. If I had a picture I would gladly have posted it.

Richard:

That sounds like what I am looking for. The Tree Town Club used to fly them at what we called Maywood. It was on 1st Ave. (Cumberland) . I hope to get plans, it was a fun and easy model to build and fly. I wonder who the "old guy" is.......

Richard,
Are you referring to Frank's "Babushka" airplane (the one that looks like it was covered with an old Polish ladies multi-colored skarf)?  n~

I'm wondering who Frank is...... I guess if he covered it with silk that might be a good choice, flowers or not. It had a 30" span, 12" chord, profile fuse.

Dennis,

Yes, the Babushka!  Frank has two of them.  I think that he got them around the time he was flying at Miller's Meadow.  You wouldn't have any
snapshots of the Babushka in your archives, would 'ya?

Richard,
I checked my photo archives and couldn't find any pictures of Frank's "Little Richard" plane. I emailed Frank today and asked him if he had any pictures or plans for the plane. I haven't heard back from him yet.  Z@@ZZZ  Will let you know what, if anything, that I find out about the plane.

Richard,
Frank replied and said he does not have any plans but he thinks he has a set of wing ribs.

Dennis and Ed,

I had not heard anything from Frank.  Perhaps it might have been because I suggested that he make templates out of one of his "Little Richards."

It makes sense that no one took any photos of the "Babushka."  That was one old and ugly airplane, even to Frank.

Ed, don't lose hope, we'll keep up the good fight until you get the fixins for your own Babushka.

     Best regards,

     Dick

Thank you very much...... I need to show these Cajuns a real good old airplane. I have been accepted by everyone here as if they where my old flying buddies forever. Southern people are the best.
