Nostalgia From The Old World: Macchi M39
« on: February 27, 2010, 07:23:08 AM »
French stunt flyer Yves Fernandez has just completed his last airplane:

The Macchi M39 is a semi-scale F2B replica stunter inspired by the famous italian seaplane racer from the 1930's. Power is a Saito .82 which will drive the 69 oz. 697 sq.in machine with a real lot of authority.

As can be seen easily, Yves used to work for Bugatti in France for most of his professional career...

Thank you for posting this - truly a well built model of a gorgeous full scale.  I love the Schneider racers starting with the Curtis biplanes through the Macchi MC72 (finished too late for the final race) Yves has delivered a great interpretation of that era...

Dennis, when I visited the truly extraordinary Italian Air Force Museum near Rome, Italy, in 2006, the inevitable consequence was my MC 72 stunter. When I recently mentioned my project to do an M39 to Yves, he picked up the idea in late 2009. As you can see, he really is quicker than I. Perhaps we are about to start a trend?

Peter:
LOVE your MC-72 especially nice touch around the spinner - but you need the contra-props!   :o  HB~>

Obviusly you know I am teasing, but there have been some contra prop systems developed for IC ( I think Randy SMith had one) and of course there are now electric contra-motors.  Still a devil of a time finding suitable props though...

Very awesome!   I love the way he hid the exhaust!
