Kit showing both C/L and R/C on plan
« on: September 22, 2018, 08:40:01 AM »
I remember hearing that there was a kit that showed both C/L and R/C versions on the  same plan, but don't remember what kit it was.  Does anyone know?

Thanks

Dave

The Sig Fazer is dual purpose. The flaps are too big for c/l but making smaller ones isn't a problem. It's a good sport c/l plane.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.

Sometimes, kit makers try to appeal to as many people as possible.  Advertising a kit as either C/L or R/C, with suggested engines from .15 cuin up to .40 cuin means more sales to those who don't know any better.

Has anyone ever built one? See the kit on Ebay every once in a great while, sure would like to get ahold of a nice one.

I repaired and rebuilt one that was already built poorly. Typical Sterling kit, trial fits and sizing and sanding to make it all well fitting and aligning is required. Makes a great flying old Pattern RC model, big wing, weird Frieze ailerons from when the servos were rubber powered escapements, diamond airfoil stab for stability using reed radios.

I never finished mine, but saw a beautiful one fly with a Torpedo 45. Mine has a Tigre V-60.

For Scale it's pretty far off, I recontoured a bunch of stuff on mine but stopped short of doing any mods with a ruler. Just a nice Semi-Scale early 60's ship, should be a really cool control line model with a throttle and maybe add flaps, big ole 3 1/2 inch wheels would roll along nicely in grass.

The Sterling PT-19 kit I'm working on states that it was primarily intended as a R/C, but includes rudimentary directions For C/L.

Saw one just recently for $200. Would make a cool sport scale C/L model. It's 70" wing means you would have a pretty impressive model.

Profile Sterling F-6F Hellcat. Similar set-up as the Carl Goldberg P-40 mentioned previously.

There was also a Mustang and a Spitfire to go along with the P-63. Would look much better with a modern motor inverted.

Many of the old Berkeley kits claimed rc, ff, or cl.  Good luck.

Many of the old Berkeley kits claimed rc, ff, or cl.  Good luck.

The Berkeley Navion kit listed engine sizes for CL, free flight, and RC.  Common to all was a .29, so I got an OK .29, my first big engine. I never did get the Navion.
