I see it has a gusset between the venturi and cylinder. Would this make it  the second production version? i think the sandcast 35's had a slightly wider case than later models.

First iteration had no web to venturi and the back plate screws threaded into the mounting lugs.

Second iteration had small "bump outs" added to top of mounting lugs for more meat around threads.

Third iteration had the web to venturi.

MM: As far as I know, modern innards will fit perfectly.
The thing to watch is the head - the early version had a relatively thin head that would occasionally warp and lose the fiber gasket.
The later versions had a somewhat thicker head.
Also, the factory modified some Ranger heads to four-bolt configuration and aluminum gaskets.
The guy who really knows Fox engines is Bill Morebacher (spelling?).
