Chipmonk is getting closer!
« on: March 20, 2010, 05:35:51 PM »
Over the past few days I've gotten most of the color on the Chipmonk and thought I'd give a progress report. Man, do I need to learn to mask!  HB~> HB~> Oh well, I know I'm hurring now to get some time on the plane before the Northwest Regionals.

I have lots of touching-up to do, then add some color to the nose and cowling, maybe the wheel fairing (no pants), add the canopy and paint the cockpit and a few other items. When all that's done a coat or two of clear.

As of right now, the total weight is 49.9 ounces; When finished, it may be under 52!  :D :D  Better than I thought it might come in at.

I just hope it flys!

Hello Brian!
Your plane is pretty cool. #^ #^
These details of the painting I think you can hit with a blade.
I'm not good with paint I work well with Monokote but I want to learn to paint my planes (perhaps 18 or 19 in appearance  LL~ LL~ LL~) but I still have a long way of learning!
Congratulations I'm sure the plane will fly very well. ;D ;D

Plane looks great even with the over spray.  Lots of techniques in the finishing department.  One I learned from Windy tape was aluminum foil.  It is easy to wrap around fuselages, wings and tail surfaces.  Only tape needed is around the mask area.  It takes a lot of newspaper/aluminum foil to mask a plane to prevent accidents and I still got a small spot somewhere.  This is where paints stands are great.  Keep up the great work.  DOC Holliday

And the WOSRT for finding a hole in your masking seems to be red shot on white.

My race car is red and white, and no matter how well I mask and tape, I find SOME spot that the red leaked through. :(
