Lacking in Compression

Hi Guys

My Norvel 061 is difficult to start even with an electric starter. I was told it is lacking in compression due to a worn out piston liner assembly although I reckon my engine only had about 30+ flights. I am using only 10% nitro, 20% castor / synthetic. I was also told that removing the 2 glow head gaskets will improve the compression. Anyone have a similar experience?

if the Norvel will not hold comp while turning it over by hand than removing head shims will not help

   My experience with Norvel .061 engines is with the KidVenture C/L circles at Oshkosh, and over literally thousands of flights, I don't think I ever saw one 'worn out." They git retired for other reasonsbut would always start and run. they would always require some choking, hot or cold. They are really tight from the factory and following their break in instructions is important. For KidVenture models, we would take the head off, and put in  few drops of fuel. Hit it with the starter for 15 or twenty seconds and flush out. Repeat this for eight or ten cycles, then put the head back on. If it will turn over with the supplied spring starter, you are done. Check your head and glow plug for a good seal and maybe try another one. These won't have compression like a ST.60! Just keep that in mind. If you are not used to operating the little engines, it will take some time to become familiar with the animal.
