Actually Gene, Dave and I judged both Classic and N-30...
We had it fairly easy...the wind was pretty good on Saturday and came from one direction. Ron Farmer was a World Class runner....
Great contest.

Thanks Rich, corrected.

Curious, what design/engine did Matt Colan fly in N30 & Classic. I'm impressed because I have seen John Simpson fly several times.

I flew my grandfathers P-47 that he designed back in 1967. I found the plans to it about six years ago when we were going through some stuff and convinced him to build it. It's powered by a very strong LA 46 swinging a Majic 12.1-4.5 under camber prop at roughly 9700 RPM prior to launch.
I flew it also on Sunday and it handled the wind with no issues whatsoever. I was shocked at how well it handled it. The plane never lost line tension anywhere in the pattern! I just blew a couple maneuvers on my second official which took me out of the running for the top 3.

Great Job Matt!
Let your fledgling C/L club see your awards and tell them how great a time you had- nothing breeds success like success!
-
Would somebody kindly send me the contestant list with first names for Stunt News? I know most of them, but I'd rather not guess the others. Thanks.

I was at the 1956 KOI so I have kept this mag all these years

Dang! Seeing that old FM cover reminds me: isn't it time to bring back the Beauty Queen event at our major contests? Why shouldn't we have a Ms. KOI or a Ms. Nats again? Hey, this is a throw-back hobby - let's us be us! ;D

I ran the image at high resolution in pro setting but the image got no better. This one is at 300dpi and it is the best of many I ran. The cover is the old style like the National Geographic magazines of the 1950's. Also here is a inside photo and it shows the bottom of the sign. The poster is a picture of a FF model on top of North and South America The image at the top of the poster is the King Orange crown.
I do not remember the girl ~^
I will lone you the Magazine if you want it. If you come up to the spring meet you can get it.

What about your Stunt belly dancer troupe? They looked younger than 74....

Geez, more complaints....if she were still 16 you'd be arrested! Don't you like the "more mature" types?

Remember these T-shirt from 2004. I still have mine ;D

Steve Fitton, you did it. Super. Congratulations. Big time win.

Well, not exactly. I beat Gene to win Expert, but Gene came back to beat my by 8 points in the flyoff for the perpetual cup. At KOI nobody remembers who won Expert, but everyone remembers who won the cup. All in all much better than last year, though, when my son was still in the hospital and I missed the King Orange entirely(!)

I caught most of the Experts flights.....Steve was flying SUPER. Gene was astounding in the wind!
-
Nice briefing fellers.
We do need more Beauties with sashes at these big contests. Those must have been the days.
Old soup is good when you warm it up)))))

I might also add Gene was flying 5.5-5.6 on both of his official flights in the wind. Goes to show how great it is to have excess horsepower up front. That PA 75 is awesome!!!
