King Orange International will have new home in 2011
« on: December 16, 2009, 11:20:28 AM »
The X47 Flyers would like to announce that the King Orange International will have a new home beginning in January 2011.  This has not changed anything having to do with the KOI next month in Starke, FL.

Our club has a new home field.  It is known as the "Field of Dreams" Model Air Park and was made possible through the generosity of X47 member Joe Petty and his wife, Laurie.  It is located very near the intersection of Florida SR 16 and I95.  For you GPS and Google Earth users, the Lat/Lon is 29.55.03N and 81.25.19W.  It is actually located on CR 208 right behind the Stagecoach RV Park (which is owned/operated by Joe and Laurie).  CR 208 turns off SR 16 just a couple hundred feet west of I95.  The RV park is about 1/2 mile west of 16 on 208.  Easy to find on Google Earth.

Our reason for leaving the fairgrounds site in Starke is cost.  We currently pay $400.00 to rent the site for the KOI.  In 2011, that cost will almost double.  We simply cannot afford that.  The "Field of Dreams" site will be all grass circles but they will be in good flying condition and we will have at least four circles, maybe more, for the contest.  You will not be disappointed.

Other advantages include:
Just off I95, easy to get to.
    Numerous motels with 1/2 mile.
Numerous restaurants and fast food places within 1/2 mile.
The availability of a very nice RV park for those with motor homes or campers (you can
walk from your RV site to the field)
For the ladies, two outlet malls at the intersection of SR16 and I95.
For the history buff, St. Augustine, the Nation's Oldest City, is just 6 miles to the east.

We currently have two circles set up along with an RC runway (there are two of us who fly both RC and CL).  For the 2011 KOI, we will have the additional circles ready for use and will use the RC runway for parking and pit areas.

Of course, vendors will still be welcome.  We just will not have the indoor facilities that we have had the past few years.

Also, for those who have a motor home or camper, you are welcome to use the flying site anytime that you are a registered guest in the Stagecoach RV Park.  You must be a current AMA or MAAC member to use the site and must have proof of membership on site.

We think that we have made the best decision for our club and for the future of the KOI.  We just wanted to let everyone know ahead of time that there will be a new location beginning in January 2011.  Let me repeat, this has nothing to do with the KOI in Starke next month.

If you have any questions or would like to come stay in the RV park and fly with us, send me an email and I will give you the number to call to reserve a site.

Also, we may hold a non-competition fly-in sometime during 2010.  We have not made a final decision as yet.  We will give plenty of advance notice if we decide to do it.

Hope to see you in Starke next month and at the "Field of Dreams" in Jan. 2011.
