Good news, see you there, a good move to help with better weather conditions,
-
It Looks like the new dates are having the anticipated effect, weatherwise.
I hope so. The Carolina Gang rolled out before sunup this morning.

The truck is packed and ready to go , head out to sunny Florida before daylight to get a little practice in tomorrow , our normal stop off to check out the Eighth Air Force Museum in Savannah Georgia , then arrive at KOI around noon .

The new koi flying site is very nice, close to all hotels, good food and the field is very smoothe landscaping with well groomed short cut grass, no problem for even the smallest models and skinny tires to take off, very open area too.
Field was busy late afternoon, plenty of practice and hanger flying. Stayed until dark, then went with a group of modelers tons local Bbq house,
OTS, n 30 , classic and profile today , weather was perfect yesterday, 60 + degrees today , light winds
only issue is too much sun , too much fun ,
-
Thanks Will.....wish I was there....
Keep us posted!
Have fun!

Don't forget the pictures for us stuck at home. Been in the 20"s here in my location.

I just got the first report via text message, here ya go:

The king Orange move to December for better weather has turned out to be a great move. The weather today was good with a little wind , lots of sun , but the wind and temperature was easy to deal with, 8 to 10 mph wind with little variation in direction all day . Good move by Gene Martine,
Lunch was served at the field , one of the best Hamburgers I have had in a long time ,
I was busy judging and flying today, no pics .
We flew til dark , then most of us went to local seafood restaurant, cold beer and shrimp
Will get results posted tomorrow ,

Will get results posted tomorrow
Thanks. If you can get data on who flew what, so much the better.

Thanks, Jim. I think I've recovered pretty well and can probably safely fly at the next opportunity. But a hurried road trip wouldn't have been a good way to jump back into action to test that theory.
Hope you fly well today.

;D Hi e'rybody! I know many of you don't know me and most of the "wise folk" would probably deny it if you did LL~ but please believe me when I write this ..... Gene and the guys did an absolutely awesome job pulling this event together!! I was very, very pleased with what I saw when my buddy and I pulled into the driveway. The field was wonderfully open, very nicely groomed, and the layout was wonderfully accommodating. Registration was seamless and with minimum delay the flying was underway. Although my buddy and I were only there for Sunday's flying, the weather was nearly perfect. It was a far cry from the taxing chill and breeziness of the past few KOI's we'd attended on the Naval Facility. Now we all know, "the weather is what it is" at any given point in time and certainly no one can know what it will be like months ahead of time but to all who would have attended, I wish you could have enjoyed this event with us. Nevertheless I believe all of you, who enjoy this sport/hobby should plan to attend the event next time.
So, all said and done .... to the one and only, "Mr. Gene Martine", I am so grateful to you, to your team and to all of the supporters and the competitor/participants. If our Heavenly Father, never allows me to participate again, whatever the reason, I can truly say to you and best of all to Him .... "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, I had a ball with folks I can call "my friends"!! :) :)

Florida is a long state. It's about a 5 hour trip if you push a little, more if you don't. I think my traveling days are over.

Garf is right, you can leave koi site and drive 536 miles direct south , and still be in Florida. If you missed it , you need to plan for 2017 on the second weekend in December ( per Gene Martine )
Great contest to attend, attendance was a little down from normal, but one of the best sites we have had since the field of dreams. The time of the year and the change is a good move . People just have to plan for the koi in December ilo MLK weekend in January.
The contest was a lot of fun, great weather , the food ( hamburgers, hotdogs, chips , ) was as good or better than the local restaurants , and they were very good. Lots of vendors selling stuff . I got a fireball kit by frank Macy for less than half price of 1990 sticker , Tom Dixon had his store open and others had their trunks open selling , swapping or giving away..
To all of you that are snowed in in the Midwest or up north,
If you plan to attend next year, bring a tent and plenty of sunscreen, it is still warm in "Sunny Florida "in December.

Congratulations on the Win Wayne!!!
