Nevada must be hurting for revenue........
-
I would think I could be exempt because I don't fly.
-
The complaint claims it's an unnecessary tax. That's not going to fly! (Pun intended). Most taxes are unnecessary! that doesn't stop legislators from making up reasons to levy them! Income tax is unnecessary, but if it was done away with they would simply find something else to replace it! They usually start taxing what is least likely to be able to defend against it. Small groups that are not in the mainstream like model airplanes. After they're successful there and have a precedent then they spread it o other groups that are more likely to defend against it but it's harder for them because of the precedent.
Legislators are always looking for anything that will put money in their coffers and thereby spread their power!
We should be resolute and object to and fight against all taxation. Obviously some is necessary and fair, but nearly all of it eventually becomes burdensome and unfair become some are exempt and others are not!
I don't really object to paying taxes. I do object to paying taxes that others do not have to pay!

Next it will be a tax on kites, model cars, boats, trains, etc. Once started, where does it stop? Gambling revenue must be down in Nevada.
-
Sounds like a state representative/politician that has a very bad case of HUA (head up a**) trouble. Maybe needs replacing next election.
-
Wow. You'd think they would be all set for taxes with the casinos. (Not that I'm against casinos, btw)

Nevada must be hurting for revenue........
They're not, passenger count and total operations (take offs and landings) for McCarran International have been climbing for years and are at healthy levels (I work for the Dept. of Aviation). Gaming revenue is also up, the 200 mile portion of the I-15 freeway between Vegas and LA is a solid 3-cars-abreast for nearly the entire stretch every Sunday when CA travelers go home. Las Vegas is doing well economically. Culturally... Different story for another time.
This is just an attempt from lawmakers to cash in on the burgeoning drone industry, we modelers are caught in the web again because it's likely the person(s) who wrote the legislation didn't bother (willfully or otherwise) to make the distinction between a 45 lbs., camera carrying, octocopter with the ability to patrol the Las Vegas Strip autonomously via GPS; and a tethered, LA25 powered Flite Streak.
I see the public hearing is on Monday, Dec. 5 and is down the road from my house. This will cost me some vacation time, I'll bring my rubber powered Cub to hopefully prove a point and hope one of the State officials brings a brain cell.

Don't hold your breath on the brain cell. VD~

Thanks Bill.

I am with Ty on this seeing as how my Dad commanded Hawthorn Army Ammunition Depot (now gone) and mom still lives in Yerington
That particular state has the resources to be like Alaska and rebate the citizens...every year Nevada SHOULD run a surplus...
-
Ty...did you really mean .02%, or 2%? I wouldn't think .02% would be worth collecting...but it's a start toward 10%, which is roughly what we pay, depending on what city we live in. Gotta have tax money available to attract the homeless voters, the welfare voters, and the $15/hr. minimum wage burger-flipping voters. R%%%% Steve
