Beautiful to watch

This guy may be a World Champion but from what I saw that is far from a championship flight! Mistakes all over the place. Maybe a 530 score at top!

When I saw this thread title I thought for sure we woud be treated to a video of Eric Rules laser cutter slicing away on Imitation kits.
PS: Look at the furrows in that grass, no wonder they think the WC sites are acceptable if that is what they are used to flying on. I suggest our team carry some 3" balloon wheels and /or spare LGear that can hold them just in case this time. Eeek!

How come I can't get a helper that looks like that? Too old I guess. But first video reminded me of watching a NATS Champion practicing. I mean he was all over the place. When I mentioned it Mikey Pratt who was standing beside me stated wait until he gets in front of the judges. Second video in my opinion was not a good one as you could not see the bottoms most of the time. D>K

Clearly an exhibition flight at a less than ideal site. Believe me, when Richard gets serious you'll have no problem believing he's World Class at the task. My only thought was that he ought to back off on the needle a bit <= <=. Seemed a bit on the frantic side.

Well that was much better than the other flight but still full of glaring errors!
Sorry but I've seen local guys here in Tucson put up much better flights than that and not win!
Just my opinion of course, and the camera angle wasn't always the best but His wingover with it 5 ft bobble at the inverted pull out, and 2 ft. differences in bottoms on the sq. eights, the overhead eights looked like something an intermediate flier might fly (lazy eight C'mon). The clover was just short of terrible! If that was the winning flight then the judges need to go to Keith Trostle's "school of judging", and get some better glasses!
Scored by AMA standards I'd give it about a 550, and that's being generous.

Elvis and Bob Gialdini.

Looks to me, he's just feeling it out.. maybe that was his first flight of the day, or just made a trim change and testing it out. etc It's obvious it is not an official flight as there were maneuvers out of sequence and there were 2 RWO, 2 Square-8, and 2 Clovers. and visually his lines looks shorter then normal, and flying at 4.9-5.0 sec laps.

First one is a show flight in some flight show in Germany, quite windy and looks like no chance for a practise flight.
Second one is in the more turbulent circle in Perth, also quite windy and wind kept turning.
Maybe I'm wrong but in general the standard of flying was not high in Australia, the WCh was quite early in our flying season.
Even I placed about 20th so it was weird :)
Does it get windy in Tucson?

Does it get windy in Tuscon? LL~ LL~ I was there one year for VSC in which we only got one full day of Old Time and a partial day Of Classic. I was holding my plane and pit box down when the day was called for Classic. Second day Mike wouldn't even let us set up. Wind, rain, snow and sunshine during the 4 days. But I've also been there when the weather was almost ideal. But all of this was in March for VSC, I'll let the good guys tell about the rest of the year. H^^

Dam right it's a tough crowd.. Top level competition is just that and there should be NO Give-aways!
If He is truly a world Champion he should fly like one in competition. I saw Paul Walker put up much better flights than that with a Crappy old Classic plane that barely flew. And I'm not kidding! I was one of the judges!

Just now the thought of a Junior flyer who was being reprimanded by his Dad and coach. While putting up a flight he left out a maneuver and was yelled at. He proceeded to just clown around doing loops and eights until the plane ran out of fuel. He was told never do that again and to just fly level if a pattern is blown. The Dad also told him that judges could be watching practice flights and some of this could change there judging when flying time before the judges came.
-
The shame is that some judges watch the flyer instead of the aeroplane.
Dancing with a plane is not what is scored.....or shouldn't be anyhow.

If the judges are watching the pilot and not the plane, they need a talking to. mw~
