Kidventure at Oshkosh
« on: July 30, 2008, 03:27:15 PM »
Went to Oshkosh yesterday and worked at Kidventure. What a great way to spend a day. My buddies Paul( Rootbeard), Chris(Harleyman), and Ryan(Propbuster) let me ride up there with them. I only volunteered to launch or start, but those three worked their tails off out in the circle with the kids. I got to launch for Sean McEntee, I think I spelled that right. Sean had to give up in our circle because the wind or my bad tossing was causing too many crashes. Got to Meet Bud Bosioch and Don and Charles. Thanks Don for sharing stories about C/L and life. If you get the chance, do this and you will be rewarded with seeing the smiles on the kids faces. Thanks to Sig for furnishing all the fuel etc.

Joe,
It was a great way to spend the day with some of my close friends. The smiles were on both ends of the lines. I even saw a few big kids flying with big grins on there faces.

Elwyn,
Good shot of Ryan launching one of the Sky Baby's. (4th one down) Man those planes are tough!!! And the Norvell's ran like a Timex watch. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Here is a photo we took on the drive up to Oshkosh. When I get home I will post more.

Did Sig also supply the planes? The planes in the pics look like a Bratco Sky Baby ARF:

If so, they need to be given credit where credit is due!

Man O man do those kids look like they are having a blast! So were the boys being taught!

Kidventure is 10 years old this year.  Sig has been involved early on.  Justin Van Dee and his lovely wife (both from SIG) are on site all week helping out.  I have done it a few years now.  We fly about 2500 kids in the week.

There are a lot of people that make this happen, and I hope don't forget anyone.    They all deserve a big thanks.  Jim Krueger and his family ( Tom and wife Julia) ran the show for years.  This year Bud Bodzioch and Don Adriano are giving Jim a break, but I am sure Jim will be there too.   Art Johnson, the carrier guy keeps all the airplanes airworthy.  The treats them like his personal fleet and does a great Job.  He has some great tricks to make them bulletproof.

Lots of modelers come up and fly and pit.

I could not get off work mid week this year, so  I'll be up there with my 2 boys helping out on Saturday and Sunday.

Just got back from 2 days at Oshkosh.  Flew all afternoon on Saturday.  My 2 boys, who don't like airplanes that much pitted for me all day.
I was proud of them.  They learned how to start a norvel, tune it and launch.  We had some bad launches, he was still learning and we wrecked one
plane and Art wasn't happy.   I told Art it was my fault(pilot).....

My oldest kid said the best thing.  "I still don't like model airplanes, but now I really understand why you do".

Sunday, my oldest had to leave for a college visit, so I went back alone.  I pitted and flew a bit.
Sunday is a short day, and Bud looked tired so I helped out both shifts.

I did go to the FlyMarket, and I am happy to say that the demons of cheap drill bits and show-ending-specials on T shirts did not tempt me.

The $10 Chinese Binks paint gun #7 copies almost got me though.

Next year I need to come during the week and get to see a little more of the show.

Pilots, Kidventure needs guys that can teach kids to fly CL .  many hands make short work.  It isn't easy, it's tiring, but the rewards are great.
