Kids today...

You laugh! But this happened to me! My friend and I worked for the county back in the early 70'ds and we were sent out of the office to paint Right-of- Way stakes in a small shack. We were having a high ol' time when Rick realized what was happening. Needless to say, we got out of the shack in a hurry!

Cheers, Jerry

I must have been immune to the glue and dope fumes.  People would come over for a visit and immediatelly ask if I had been painting a plane.  I did all my building finishing in my bed room with closed door to try to keep from the rest of the house.   Any way they would stay a few minutes and leave.  The reason I got away from dope was my Sandy the toy poodle.  she knew when I was painting with dope and would not come in the shop.  D>K

I'm sure most of us got a dose before we learned industrial hygiene. Now you have to worry about the kids getting fentanyl.

One time, while in the Air Force, I was doing a sheet metal repair inside a fuel pod on a B-58 and it required that I use sealant during the work.
I remember cleaning up with MEK and then a bunch of little tiny people were getting in the way of what I was doing. At one point they were getting nasty and all I remember after that was being pulled out of the access hole by some guys and then off to the infirmary.
Many years after that Werwage and I were sharing a room someplace and while we were getting up and ready for the day he told me about the dream he just had that night. He told me all about spending the night inside the fuel tank of his USA1. He vividly recalled the tubes, solder joints and spots of corrosion and I recalled my adventure with the little people years before but never mentioned that to him. Needless to say we fed on that dream of his all day long. I wonder if Billy remembers this because it did keep us entertained well into the evening.
I see people my age out there climbing mountains and zip lining and here I am feeling good about myself because I got my leg through my underwear without losing my balance

Besides the model airplane dope and glue in my small bedroom, my family also had a couple of months where my dad covered and doped the wings to a Starduster Too inside our house.

It's kind of hard for me to fathom, looking back 50 years later.  My clothes probably all smelled like dope when I went to school.  Maybe my mom's smoking in the house counteracted any potential ill effects from the dope.

It would never happen today.
