Kenhi/Midwest Panthers-What's the difference?
« on: September 22, 2009, 08:28:16 AM »
I'm just wondering what, if any, the differences between the Kenhi and the Midwest Panther designs are? Was the Midwest kit just a "Re-issue" of the old Kenhi kit, or are there actually differences in the design?

The Kenhi panther I built in the mid to late 50's did not have a sheeted leading edge,it had multiple spars startig at the leading edge going back to about the high point, the spars were aproximatly 1/8"X1/4",also the the airfoil was thinner,

I have both sets of plans. About the only thing in common is the general appearance and the name. The Midwest version is a much more "modern" playout, thicker wing, sheeted LE, different nose and tail moments.

If you have something you are specifically interested in, let me know and I can dig out the plans and look. When making the choice, I built the Midwest version and it has turned out to be a pretty good sport plane, not a competition quality PA plane. It will fly the whole pattern, but really doesn't turn well enough.

See "Trimming my Stunter" for more.

Hi

There are big differances, If you want a dead on plan of the original plane, I have one availible, that is extremly detailed with every part and many ISO drawing. It is one of the most complete best plans you will ever see, and a true work of art
The plan was drawn for me B  Robert Sweitzer and is about 20 feet long, 2 sheets, incredible detail.
see my web site or catalog

Kenhi Panther. VERY nice  drawing of this plane full size very detailed........$19.00

Thanks Randy, I was only wondering because Keith Sandberg is in the painting stage on a Midwest version. I had some cool graphics made up for the tail for him that read "Kenhi Panther" because I had it in my head at the time that that's what it was. Monday evening in his shop, I noticed on the plan hanging on his wall that it's actually the Midwest one, DOH! I guess it's time to re-do the graphics.  ;D HB~> ;D

Here are some pictures of mine:  http://flyinglines.org/OBSSC.09.html

It's a pretty airplane. Been good so far.  Good luck with the paint job, and be sure and post some pictures.
