Title: kenhi planes
Post by: steve pagano on February 27, 2007, 10:28:13 PM
I'm working on my patternmaster project and would like to try the canopy i had on my kenhi cougar but i haven't seen the plane since i put her in on the square eights. Does any body know anything about this plane or possibly have any pics?. I didn't build mine, It was a gift so i don't have any plans :(

HI Steve,

I believe there are some Cougar pictures on the PAMPA web site Photo Gallery under Classic.

IIRC, the Kenhi and Midwest versions were virtually identical as far as the canopy and fuselage "look".

Are you sure you mean the Cougar canopy.  I have a kit and there is no canopy, just a windshield pattern that fits the cutout in the turtle deck.  The Panther had a bubble canopy and the Midwest version was particularly nice.  Bill Sawyer makes a great replacement for the Panther canopy.

I was just going on his "Cougar" reference since that modification would be pretty simple to do on the Patternmaster.   You're right, it's just a piece of wrap around plastic similar to the Smoothie.

And, yes, Bill Sawyer makes a very nice Panther (bubble)canopy, I have a couple.  It is the canopy that is called out on the original FM plans for Champione Lampione's Sabre from '69! ;D

Yep its the cougar! Your right on the description of the windshield. I really didn't know how to describe it but i love that design, The way it blends right in with the turtle deck is very sleek.
                         sorry for the confusion n~

here is a picture of my cougar
i have done severall of these stye canopys and i cut the plastc oversize and put it in a bowl of hot (just quit boiling) water
then remove it and lay it on the airplane to form it to shape. then trim. it works great

thanks for the comments
I stole the paint sceme from the royal navy seafire's and fireflys  its duck egg blue and dark sea grey
that one is a midwest cougar i also did a kenhi and the canopy is the same. the top of the turtledeck wood extends out over the canopy.

Hi Steve,

I see that you are building a PM 51.  I am, too!  Jose sent me the plans for his 2004 PM, and I am going to use a Large James Hemi ST 60 in it.  It is a hodge podge of parts but mostly Jose's design.  I am going with a turtle deck and "classic" style canopy.  A friend of mine swapped me a set of .60 TM wing cores for a plane.  The wing is the same, except for span.  The TM cores are about 2 inches shorter overall.

Shouldn't be a problem with the ST 60 up front!  A *little* "Jurassic Stunt"! ;D

great keep us posted on progress with a few pics. I'm building 2 both will have stock s.t.51's  but they will have different wingspans. One will have a 60 inch span and the other will have a 62 inch span. I've used the fuse. sides but not sure what to do with the top block, I guess i'll just try to wing it  **)

You have PLENTY of options!  The Cougar/Smoothie canopy look, a turtle deck with an Ares/Argus/Juno type canopy, a bubble canopy like Champione Lampione does with his United PMs, etc., etc., .............  I built a P-51D from a Patternmaster a couple years ago!  Always though a Bf-109 would look cool using Pattern master specs!  Of course, you can do a Spitfire/Sea Fire take off like Windy/Joe Adamusko do.  Or do like Bob BAron did with his PM that he won the '96 NATS with!

Hi Steve,

In '96 Bob had a pretty much "box stock" PM  with a Tigre 60........  He did the nose/top block to look like his Avanti series, but otherwise it was PM.  I don't have my pictures handy, but he *might* have messed with the rudder, but not much.

I launched him in practice a few times, he was really on that week!
