Hi Jim,
I did try to send the correct files to Robert for this site but something did not work. I therefore had a go at sticking it on my own website http://www.keithrenecle.co.za/ I'm not great at this website stuff so I'm hoping that it works for you. In 2004 a 3.5 Meg file was HUGE but now it is tiny! Once you are into my site then click on "Control line stuff" and scroll down to the selection blocks for the Sim and the instruction manual. It does not download for some reason but if you right-click the blocks and select "save target as" then you can save the files, unzip them and run them......hopefully! Let us know if this works. If not then I'll make Plan B!

O.K. I see now after re-booting my system that you can just left-click on each button and a window pops up and you can save the files.

Keith,
Thanks for taking the time to help:)
Got it going but the sim stops just as the model is entering the Cloverleaf. I have made several runs to see if anything changes---so far, same each time. Can I do something to allow the sim to complete the pattern?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,
I have just tried this by downloading from this forum, unzipping and running it, and it runs right through the program without bombing out. It all depends on the graphics card and the settings in your PC I think. The original resolution was 1024 x 768 if I remember correctly. Most modern graphics cards will run this program with ease. You can also try to run the clover from the keyboard before you hit the space bar by pressing the "C" key.
It is of course also possible that the download is corrupted, so just try doing it over. You can also try it on another PC as well.
There are a few funnies in the old program as well. There are a few glitches in the flight path of the model like the obvious one at the top of the vertical eight. I tell everyone that it's turbulence! #^
The tops of the square maneuvers are also as per the old FAI rules which called for "parallel to the ground". This was never flown that way because of the really short distance between the vertical legs and the much bigger corner radius. The extremely sharp corners have a 5 foot radius but there is no skidding as in real life. The latest rules do not call for 5 foot radius any more..........thank goodness. As I said, this was done in 200,4 so the old graphics are crude by today's standards. I have not had the time to do a modern update even though the latest software is incredible.....but so is the learning curve! Earlier this year I did a workshop in New Zealand with the latest graphics in high resolution but it did not have a flying model, just the maneuver shapes that can be viewed from any angle. It also has the correct square shapes as per the latest FAI rules.
Let me know how get on please. Thanks.

Keith,
Tried reloading, no joy.
I noticed in the Manual, the last part of the second paragraph, mention is made of a problem with proper presentation of the Clover. Then, I saw that the presentation problem is why there is no clover on the sim.....guess I missed that when I first did a quick read of the Manual:)

Hi Jim, If you read further you'll see that I did add the clover and made it like the way that it can actually be flown. It is now accepted that way in the FAI F2B rules. I would like to hear from others to see if they are having the same issue with it stopping before the clover because when I run it even on my old laptop with XP and it's own internal graphics card, it runs just fine.

Hi, Keith,
The sim is working smooth as ice with my new Win 10 desktop machine. It's the first time I've looked at it with the Clover included. I need to memorize more of the keyboard shortcuts so I don't have to look away to change views. But you did a great job on it. Thanks,
Rusty
P.S. I've not heard from our young buddy, Theo K. in a long time. I helped him via Internet to build a Li'l Satan over on the Cox forum, and he was very skilled and enthusiastic. I hope he's still learning to build and fly. Just wondering if you'd seen him around the circles.

Hi Keith,
The version in Kim's link that Sparky has on his homepage stops for me just before the clover.
The version from your web site does not. There is a small glitch at that point, but it continues.

Keith,
Thank you for all the help.
After Pat's comment, I tried loading from your site and, other than the bit of "turbulence" at the top of the vertical eight and the hourglass, everything seems to be fine:)
All the help is much appreciated.

Like I said, the original version did not have the clover because I could not plot the shape according to the FAI rules description. I did send Sparky the update but it seems that he was not able to replace the one on the site. Anyway, so now it's on my own site and I'm happy that it's working.
Rusty, about Theo, he's just been busy with other things. He has a young family and that takes a lot of time. The other factor is that for the last few months the wind here has been unusually bad, so many of us, including me, have not been out on a regular basis. Thanks for your concern! I'll be sure to pass that on to him.

How much time/trouble would it be to have all the corners a 10 to 15 foot radius ?

Hi Randy,
It would be a lot of time/trouble y1 It is something I would like to do but it's a long time since I did the first one and the newer software is so much more advance, and sooooo much more difficult to learn. Maybe one day!

One reason for longer lines is it makes the corners look smaller + bigger planes tend to fly better and don't bounce as much in turbulence. It won't make much difference trying to see what a good square loop looks like. The best way to help things might be to redraw the judges guide to show how the maneuvers should look from dead upwind and 22.5 degrees to either side and with larger radius corners. That will give them some perspective on how the maneuvers can look and still be correct.
