Windy City Classic

A big thank you to the Chicagoland Circle Cutters for a great contest Saturday.  The weather looked like it was going to rain, it did not till the drive home.  The wind was from near calm to breezy with turbulence up on top.  The flying was typical being so early in the year.  Pull outs were high and some shapes were "interesting"!  The first round of Advanced didn't see a full score!  The contest ran smoothly under Mike Schmitt's guidance.  Tom Polk, from the Detroit area, was there and launced for my in the first round.  He was interested in my electric set up.  We'll be seeing Tom more often.  The CCC had hot dogs, sloppy joes, chips, pop, and water for everyone.  All nicely done.  It was good seeing everyone after the long winter and lousy spring weather.

Mike and his crew did a wonderful job of running the Windy City Classic.  My kudos to all the judges, runners tabulators and helpers.  Great food.  Speaking of food, I found a great German Restuarant in Palatine Illinois. I stayed in Hoffman Estates at a fairly decent Red Roof Inn.  The Bauer's Brauhaus is located at 45 W. Slade Street.  Come early in the evening or you will not find a seat.  Good, good German food.

why don't these contest show up on the ama web site. I looked to see if there was a contest around Mich and nothing came up. Is there some where to go to find out where the contest are. I here about these here but never see them anywhere.

Looks like a good time was had by all. Was hoping to do a little flying this weekend here, but it's still windy and/or raining and it just won't quit. HB~>

Keeping my fingers crossed it quits and Sig doesn't get washed out again this year. Haven't heard how things are down there. Hope to see ya'll there!

Steve:

Check the "Events" section of this web site.  I believe most events get posted there.  It is about halfway down the first page.

 Mike, Dennis,
Thanks for a great contest and a great time. A special thanks to all who helped. As Crist mentioned the rain held off until the drive back home. It continued all the way and well into the night. We have had rain 16 of the last 19 days here. May have to start thinking about building model boats as there currently seems to be more places to run them than there are places to fly planes. Maybe things will dry out by mid summer. Again, thanks for a great contest. Missed seeing, Larry, Floyd, and Howard.

Yes, I had a frog strangler on the way south on I-57 from about Kankakee to south of Champaign.  Could hardly see a car three lengths in front of me.  Finally abated just north of Mt. Vernon IL.  My van temp gauge went from the mid-fifties to the mid eighties by the time I got south to Mt. Vernon IL.  My only thought for improvement was to have the Park Department deliver a Porta Pottie to the sight.

Larry,
Yep. Next week Mike and I will be travelling to Pewaukee (Milwaukee), Illinois. It will be the first contest we've flown in this year. Hope the weather cooperates.

Many thanks to Mike and the rest of the CCC group for a great time.  Thanks to Dennis and Dale for judging Adv/Exp.  Also, thanks to Allen Brickhaus for his trimming suggestions on my new airplane.  I'll be working on those as weather permits.

My knees were shaking during the 1st round (new plane).  2nd round was much better, but I added to the square 8's (brain gas)........still a great day.

BTW, Crist Rigotti's new Protroma is really cool.  This is an electric profile with rather rakish jet-like lines.  I launched for Crist's 2nd round.  The acceleration of this plane is unbelievable!
