HI Gil

Pretty sure the *blue* LA engines were powder coated.  Paint remover like Dad's Stripper should do it.  I don't bother, I kinda like it! LL~

Sorry Gil, haven't been on for a couple days.

Alex is home and going through a regulation period with the insulin, etc..  Seems to be doing fine, just a real life changing experience for a 9 year old.  But we are so blessed that there are Doctors and medication now that will give her a normal life.

I get Dad's Stripper from Wally World! LL~  A quart with a spray bottle included.  I use it for everything short of my full size cars.

That stripper doesn't attack alum then I assume? I sure don't want dark and light spotted alum.
And thanks for the reply...Oh, it doesn't come with a "pole" does it ???              n1 n1

Hi Bootlegger, That beautiful coating is a Powder coat that is really baked on tight. I always thought it prevented the engine from cooling as well as it could without it and was successful in cleaning it off in the crockpot with antifreeze. Then used a very fine stainless  steel brush to get it clean in very soapy warm water.
The heating of the engine in the crockpot  was always one of my favorite things to do. It seems to make the engine run better as though it were a curring or distressing the of the metals in the engine parts. There could be a lot of rebuttal here.........

I would think they were blue anodized, not powder coated.

Hi Dick,

Definitely not anodized (which would have been better IMHO).  There are some chips in the coating on a couple of mine.  Pretty sure it is powder coating.

Hi ,

I'm not here to stir the pot , but the blue colour , may help dissipate the heat from the engine faster than just the plain silver , natural aluminum ?

You find hydraulic reservoirs painted a black , dark green , or dark blue to help shed heat more efficiently from the very hot fluids .

Just my 2 cents worth .

Mornin guy"s, I found a Stripper that work's, and doesn't foul the Alum finish.
It is called Klean Strip KS-3 Preminum Stripper, and I got it at Wal Mart.
If you use it, please, wear safety glasses, and heavy duty rubber gloves. Follow all the directions on the label.
I let mine set for more time than they suggested as I found that it wasn't enough time to loosen the coating on the engines..
Again I want to thank all ya'll for the suggestions.. #^
