KCRC Control Line
« on: May 20, 2018, 03:08:18 PM »
Saturday the 19 of May one of the oldest RC clubs in America invited control liners over to their field for a fun fly.  I drove over through rain and after a bit the rain stopped.   Everybody that was there were under a canopy.   Any way planes got unloaded and then moved to the pavilion as the rain picked up again.   Wasn't a heavy rai just enough to be irritable.   Finally it quit and lines started being rolled out.  Jim Lee got first flight up.  Then Joe Ed Pederson got up.   I don't know who was next as I got the B-25 ready.   Fourth flight on the plane and it felt good now I have all the movable surfaces lined.   Had a little turbulent air at top of circle but the B-25 motored right through it.   Need to get more flights on it to get myself in shape for the pull.   70+ ounces does make you work even though I kept my balance.   Didn't get a list of who all showed up.

Cary Minor was putting up flights after getting there late.   You ever seen an F2D when the engine departs.  Don't know what happened to the safety cable.  Engine mount t rear engine bolts.  I also got a flight on the Mig and the Vagabond.   Hope you like the pics.

2nd pic is Jim Pescetto that I've known for ages.
3rd pic is Joe Ed trying to start a Tee Dee .049.
$th pi is Darwin Ulahdahl the instigater of this event telling us about his new electric plane and the help he got from Bobby Hunt.  The Lady in the background in the blue shirt is the lady that sells plans for RC scale planes and was showing us the plans she is now sells of control line planes.  I can't remember her name for some reason.  Guesss its old age.

I really want to thank the Kansas City RC for hosting this Control Line event.  Got to fly a couple of flights on a 1960's Carl Goldberg Cosmic Wind a friend gave me.  I sure don't remember getting dizzy so fast when I was in my 20's.  I put her into the ground trying to do an outside loop while I stared at the model instead of looking ahead to where it was going.  Amazingly, the plane was unscathed, and the OS Max S .35 I bought in High School had a little dirt down the venturi and the needle valve assembly bent so badly I had to take a hack saw to the bent part to back it out of the venturi.  I had a replacement Super Tigre .46 NVA available so the engine is ready to put back on the plane and try again.

A big thank you to John Holliday, Randy Smith and all the members of the club who had good advice and help.  Best of all my son, and my grandsons got exposed to Control Line in a warm friendly atmosphere with a wide variety of models.

I'm buildig a 1/2A Sig Skyray to teach my son and grandsons how to fly CL.  They live in the country and can fly in their back yard.

I suggested to one of the club organizers that they make it an annual event.  I sure hope they do.

Got to have some pic's of John Holiday's B-25. I got to launch it. This thing blasted off and in about lap and half John pulls it inverted for a view laps and then some figure eights, wild man stuff full on stunt mode. This monster was impressive. After he landed it we all ran out to hold him up after that workout and walked him to his chair. He said hey look my right arm is now longer than left now. Doesn't get any better then that. With the weird weather we had the day turned out to be perfect.
