Got that backwards - it's the World Famous Fox 15 hurl, with some support event.

BTW, The Commissioner didn't just beat Dave and (no longer Unprecedented 4-Time Champion) Brett, it was a complete blowout, not even close.  Of course that's pending the results of performance-enhancing drug tests and gender verification. My own Hurl was quite unsatisfactory on several levels.

Sadly I missed the Hurl (ooh and yes the support event) due to Flu  I gather world events kept it from our TV screens but I will be on the lookout for the re-runs.

Do I have to point out the likely perceived impropriety and conflict of interest of the winner also being the Commissioner? Please bear in mind Mr Fernandez is not called "Evil Larry" for nothing. This not (very) insignificant event should have no possibility of impropriety and I believe deserves better. Hopefully the results of “performance-enhancing drug tests and gender verification” will also be less opaque than has been the case in the past.

Check out Jim Berwick's score in Intermediate, 458 flying a patched-together borrowed Vector. This was his second-ever contest with a model he has flown maybe 10 times.

I had to miss it due to illness, sorry not to be there to cheer on the Hurlers.

Wow, that was a pretty tight battle for Expert!

That's pretty typical, including the (unfortunate) result. Dave and I have tied and narrowly beat each other by a few points at these local contests for a long time now. It's a bigger margin than last year's Golden State meet, where it was 603.0-602.667-602.333 for 1-2-3.

I made a bit of a hash of my triangles on the second (605) flight, that was plenty enough to lose the contest. I was actually pretty happy with the way I was flying since I hadn't touched the airplane since my NATs warm-up flight. Fired it up with eyeballed needle shift, was right smack on 10,000 rpm as desired, and the RPM didn't vary more than 100 RPM through the flight, just perfect. In the morning it was fine, but in the afternoon, speed was just a touch too fast to get through the dead air, and the controls a touch too slow for the 100 degree weather, to feel entirely comfortable.

I had the pleasure of judging expert at the Meat and Meet.
I can't tell how stressful it is to judge the best flyers in the country.
They are not perfect and the mistakes they make are so small.
To judge David Fitzgerald, Brett Buck and Uncle Jimby back to back to back, will give you a migraine.

I have judged these guys a dozen times and watched them fly close to a hundred times.
I don't look at the score board ( we're not allowed) so I don't know how they
score in each round.

I do recall thinking after Daves first flight, I have never seen him fly better.
Brett followed Dave and his flight did'nt blow me away. I've watched him fly better.
In the second round, they flew back to back again. Dave flew like Dave, but it didn't seem as good as the first round.
Brett's second flight was on. Big time. Again,I have watched him fly over a hundred times and throughout the flight I kept thinking that I have never seen him fly so good.

After every maneuver, I write down a number and forget about it. After the flight I'm left with an overall impression.
My impression was,"Holy cow, this is going to be close, the two best flights I have ever judged".

I knew it would be close, but not that close.

What a thrill to judge those guys!!!!!
