Hello all.
Here are some photos of my latest creations (still in "bones").
KA 10 completely scratch built from Dixon plans, own foam cores, and will be poweres by a Super Tigre 46.
Semi sheeted Dixon concept wing.
Is the first of a pair, the second one exactly the same but still thinking the power source, depending on the Tigre 46 results.
Weight at this point is 27 oz, and I expect a final weight of 50 oz.
The only desviation form Kolesnikov design is that mine is not "all in line" because of using standard horns and want a simetric flap-elev. movement.

I kept the stab line as orig on mine;and used reg. horns.
went back and installed the offset horns.
Mine flies rather well for me. I am surprised more of these planes haven,t
Been built.

Charlies plane has a great deal of potential, he just needs to fly it more rather than some of his antiques.

I would be worried as to the tiger 46 being enough for the plane.
Course, few people build as heavy as I.( I use a welder)
I have two 46 tigers and they are very sweet running , but are limited as to their
power and are easily damaged when overtaxed.
You might want to consider a ST51or make a check to see that the possible
engine change could be made with a minimum of effort while you are building.
With a 46, I believe it would be tailheavy and weight would have to be placed in the nose ,so a bigger engine wouldn,t really be a penalty.
I have a DS60 in mine with a chip muffler and it came out about the same weight as Tom,s did and balanced right on the money.
If you use the 46, I certainly hope you prove my fears foundless.

OH, my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plane prior to finish and I have a doubt about power source!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I´m thinking in powering with a ST 51, but do you think the 46 won´t be cabable with a KA 10 in the low fifties???
I´m planing about 52-53 oz and dream with the slow graceful power of the beloved Tigre but.....
Definitely in doubt, HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

Without knowing exwctly how big the KA-10 is that Tigre won't have any trouble with a 53 ounce airplane.

Well, don't know about the ST-46, but my LA-46 had some trouble flying a 54 oz airplane. This is contrary to some other findings, but that was my results at least.

Sometimes drag (wing thickness, etc) can have as much impact as weight in these areas, too.

Line lengthAMERICAN rules dia. .018 thousand.Length65 FT.
Engine DS60 BB old version. power a plenty.Think .51 eng. would be O.K.
Prop BY%O 13" Dia' Pitch +- 5 tune for good ole 2-4 results
Dope & silkspan Carbon Fiber gear That gear really saves weight.
I would be delighted to send you a picture but it is resting on my other
bed in a delicate pile ,covered, among my Supermaster,Sukhoi I,TempestIIand
Staris where they are Grandchild proof.Would be delighted to send you a picture after Christmas. My Magnum, Mars,PT19,Sukhoi II ,and Charisma II are safe on the wall.
The SukhoiIII is in the top of the closet, awaiting the fuse, stab,wing and two
part body assembly(This one BETTER fly Good!Meantime-a little guitar playing

The plane is 640 Sq .in
Org.World Champ Winning version:
weight; 1700 grams app. 591/2 ounces.
Power : 10cc/.60 . Dixon used a Vorobiev .60 then changed to xxxxx later.

Orig. had Diff. flaps . Dixon passed on that! ( Me TOO!)

Dixon attributed part of the success of the craft to the big engine and big prop
(dia.) making the wing work.

The way you have the elevator horn bent is NOT a good idea. It needs to be at a 90 degree angle to the horn. This keeps the elevator movement the same on the up and down side.

That is a larger airplane than I thought it would be at 53 ounces, yep at least a Tigre 51.

By the way, and checking one of the most famous ST 46 "partner", the 660 Stiletto, KA 10 performs thinner wing and sligtli more wing area.....
Express your opinions, please, people who have flown Stileto 660 with Tigre 46 suffrerd from lack of power?

Hi,

My first KA-10 was 55 oz with Double Star .60 Lite SE, flew fine . This is not a

big airplane. I had a modified Imitation that weighed 57 oz and used an LA ,46

12x5 prop the key was 12" prop. the best prop for normal conditions was one I

used on my St .46 Rev up 12x6. Obviously a plane that is too heavy should use a

larger engine. I think the idea of the KA-10 was to use a .60 and fly on the prop

I will be using a Discovery Retro .61 and or my newly arrived today Stalker .61 RE

Long Stroke . I think a lot of this is going to depend on how much your plane weighs.

Manuel, Just a hint...

I built my Skylark around a ST 46 and later swaped in a ST 51. Build it for the 51 with aluminum mounting pads and the 46 will fit, build for the 46 and you will need to do major surgery to get the 51 in. Nothing is the same on the two engnes, the 51 is larger everywhear.

I think Walter's horns will work fine for the stock KA-10 (which has wing and stab inline). It would correct the control system geometry, for this configuration, tho maybe the angle is a bit too much. If Manuel's modified KA-10 has similar horns, it would be bad news. In all cases, the control horn should be at 90 degrees to the pushrod (assuming the pushrod is straight, no doglegs allowed).

Hi Manuel,

The ST G51 is DEFINITELY the way to go if you are deciding between it and a LA46. Having flown both, it's a "no brainer".

Is it my imagination or is it rather a short nose for this model? I guess an ST46 with stock silencer would be o.k.

You´re right, the nose is slightly shortened, expecting not having to add weight in the tail.... I have several silencers to play with, including old style Rustler Merco I bought you, Mr. Merco, some years ago, and are a perfect fit to ST 46.
