I am heading out for a great day at Santa Anita race track,
any other horse lovers out there?

My racing is the local stock and modified racers at Lakeside Speedway of Kansas City Kansas. The original dirt track was taken by politicians to make a horse & dog racing facility. Needless to say it was not managed right and went belly up. It not sits vacant and has been for over a decade. Still surprised that NASCAR got the big track in KCK. In fact got to meet a few more drivers last night after the races. H^^

Yes, I'm a horse lover, but prefer them under my rear end. I ride a couple of Tennessee Walkers occasionaly and ride with another friend who rescues mustangs.
Grew up on rascals but just can't have them in town! No sense of humor in the town fathers, I guess.

I've never ridden a horse, but would like to and I think I would enjoy it as another interest. I don't follow horse racing in general, but I do try to follow the Triple Crown, and watched the Belmont Stakes today. I didn't think Exaggerator was going to go the distance in this one and he didn't. Good race, though. I have a cousin the has earned his living working with mainly show horses, jumpers and steeple chase types, and that seems interesting, but just one more thing I wouldn't have time or money for! If it were possible, though, I think I would have a place where I could keep a horse. It's gotta be kind of like riding a motorcycle, isn't it? LL~

The spousal unit rides dressage. I spectate. Spent my childhood at Santa Anita mucking stalls, exercising and breezing horses for my uncle. Spent a lot of time in a jockey saddle - until I got too big.

Almost Dan, Horses like people have different attitudes, some gentle as lambs, others you have to let them know who's boos. Was a trail rider for a riding stables. One horse we had took experienced people or some one we knew. I got stuck with on a ride with a group. Of course a lady didn't listen and dropped her purse which was supposed to be locked in the truck of the car. I got off to retrieve it. When I got ready to get back on he tried to take off. A quick yank on the reins and his legs went out from under him. Best horse we had from then on. You also know that some times you have to put a bike down. Needless to say you learn how to get away from both when the time comes. H^^

Bass fishing is my other interest. I'd like to try sturgeon fishing, but the regs are too lawyered-up to make it seriously appealing. Rode dirt bikes for years, when I flew Free Flight models (F1A mostly), but model aeroplanes has pretty much always been #1 for me since about 4 years old. H^^ Steve
