Bill, Control Line World, the magazine, aligns with your interests. Check the Brodak website.

Brodak sells all kinds of sport planes. Almost cornered the market. Bought up the rights to market the great sport planes of the past. Far better quality of materials. Improved construction design. Laser cut parts. Over 100 kits. Full line of control line accessories. Very useful. The Brodak Fly-in is nearly a week of competition events, but in many ways it is a pilgrimage full of the spirit of the sport flier. Fun fly. Flying control line for fun. If you find it possible to make the trip, you'd be amazed at how enriched our hobby has become.

I would also recommend you check out RSM:

http://www.rsmdistribution.com

with an offering that easily equals Brodak's.

In any case, given the availability of very-high-quality (compared to the good old days of rampant die-smashing of rock-hard balsa) kits from RSM/Brodak/SIG, FAR superior engines, and an almost overwhelming availability of advice on all topics, it's certainly much easier to get going today that it was when I was trying to as a kid back in the 70s.

You have the advantage of having very good public flying site with some of the most knowledgable and experienced pilots ever to fly CL immediately at hand. There sure isn't a lot to know about model airplanes that, say, Keith Trostle, doesn't know. Tucson is a real hotbed of activity.

Looking forward to meeting you next weekend, just ask around, I plan on being there both days (and practicing since I haven't touched a model airplane since October...).

Hi Bill, Just thought i'd jump in here and say hello, I like you returned to flying and building just two seasons ago after a very long hiatus. I also thought that i would be just a "sport flier" but guess what, after building my first plane in 35 years, a flite streak from Brodak's, meeting up with a great bunch of flying enthusiasts known as the Philly Fliers, it only took one season and I entered our club contest. Tried my hand at the beginner stunt pattern, it's the same manuevers i'd been "sport flying" just in a specific order.  I hope when you get your hand back into it you try a contest or two. It's a blast, who cares where you place, you'll get ton's of help from everyone.

It sounds like you can hook up with a great bunch of guy's in the Tucson area.

The Philly Fliers, led by the funnest guy in the world, Dan Banjock, are indeed a great bunch. Dan never fails to enjoy himself!

Amen Brett, he never fails to have a smile. You should see him when he flies his "jet stunter", it's christmas morning, and the Easter Bunny rolled into one, you'd think he just hit the lottery. The Fliers are a great bunch their tool boxes are always open as well as their years of knowledge.

He hold court at the NATS L-Pad every year!

Perhaps because Dan is such fun, some people overlook him as a very capable competitor, particularly in difficult conditions.
