Just for Fun
« on: April 16, 2006, 05:23:48 PM »
I finished my R/C conversion Fun Fly 51. I don't expect to much out of it just Fun. It's a cheap Tower kit at 45.00 wood is as expected not up to our kit mfger's standards. None the less I still hope it fly's ok. 44" span ,630 sqs. my finished weight is 46oz with an old FP 40 converted to C/L. Dope and silkspan, painted with Lustre Kote. If the weather co-operates I'll fly it tomarrow. I'll hope for better luck than my Smootie had, but I've got ball links on this.

Lee,

Looks great and so does the Jamison.  You've been busy building.  I hope you enjoy all your planes.

It's going to fly for you Lee. I've considered doing the same thing. The weight is right and the wing area. Since it is a profile I would appreciate it if you would try making a wedge to give the engine as much offset as a Bi-Slob and let us know what it does.

Looks like you'll have to make some ski's for your planes. Isn't SNOW a four letter word? y1 y1 j1

Well dispite the wind I flew it today and am happy to report it is still intact. It flew pretty good but not being to experienced at flying no less in windy conditions I didn't do anything but go in circles and feel it out. The FP 40 had plenty of power and handled the wind just fine, but the last flight I think the fuel foamed since it was rather short and there was fuel left in the tank, need to secure the tank better.    j1 ;D ;D ;D y1 y1 8)

Lee,

I'm telling you offset that engine about 12 degrees and you'll have a real trick plane. It'll hoover and do 4 foot loops with the engine offset. Ask Sparky.

That sounds like you think I'm telling you wrong but I'm not. Take a look at a Bi-Slob and see how much offset the engine has.

I believe you when you say it has that much offset, but I've got my hands full flying a normal plane.

The plane would actually create less pull because the engine offset prevents it from getting up to speed, Thus the stall. and that is what will get it to HOVER. ( please note the spelling connection) j1 y1

BTW. Ilove these little smiley faces.

Frank:

Flew it again today and I'll say this " Don't need no stinking offset" I ran out of fuel just before going into the wind, once into the wind all the way it caught the BIG wing and raised it about 3' and it just stayed there for what seemed like forever. Then plop down she came, I was so amazed I forgot to go backwards to tighten the lines. But it's a tough old girl and all I lost was a prop. The FP 40(old R/C) I got at a LHS for 40.00 really hauls the mail on that plane, I love it.
