Author Topic: Just finished my new Werwage P-47 Thunderbolt! (Read 6633 times)

Ever since I saw Billy’s P-47 at the 2004 Worlds, I had always wanted one. It looked so cool and it sat low to the ground. When Werwage & Son offered it as a kit, I had to have one.

Well here it is, and I’m really happy with the way it looks and flies. It came out at 68 oz. It has an E-Flite 32, Berger ESC and accelerometer powered by a Thunder Power 5 cell 2700 mAh battery. Chris Rud was most helpful and put out a really good kit. The finish is all dope with a PPG Shop Line Clear Coat. John Hill did the graphics and my grandson Ryan Young did a lot on the inking. Other than the first tweak to the flaps to get the wings level, it flies like a dream and I’m looking forward to the 2016 contest season.

The all up weight is 68 and that includes battery. Without battery it weights 56 but then you can't fly it without the battery. also the balance came out spot on . No nose weight . Yipee.. Bill

Hi Bill,
Fabulous airplane. Really a fine job of building and finishing.

I'm currently building one also and can only hope it turns out as nice as yours. Mine of course will be a "slimer" with a PA65 on a pipe.

Mine is just mostly framed up and I had to take a little break for cataract surgery and now for VSC, but will get back to it soon.

I got the color scheme from a p47 that comes into Hooks airport every now and then. Hooks is where I keep my plane. In some ways it was a bad choice as it really accents the longer nose. But then again I love the colors and it really stands out. I guess I'm spoiled on the full size war birds as we have a B17 , Mustang and T6 based here. At times we have a Hellcat, Corsair , Seafury, T28 ect drop in. Aint life great.

Shameless plug... If anyone is interested in a P-47 kit please let me know. I'm working on a website but for now you can message me for more info. I build the wing and ship it in one piece. Doesn't have the controls in it so it stays BOM legal. I build the Stab, Elevator (hinged) and Rudder. I mold the shells and you get the fuse as laser cut parts. All formers included. Its meant to be as complete as possible but still stay BOM legal.

Pat King and I are nearly complete with a few other designs as well.

- Super Ares - Available fall of 2016
- Typhoon - Same wing and Numbers as P-47. Plane I flew at the 2015 NATS
- Junar XL - Available winter of 2016 may be as a Takeapart and/or composite.
- 40 size P-47 - Whenever I have time to build the prototype and make the manual

Billy's first one was in 1995. It was a red I beam an he won the concourse award. You can see it on the gallery section of the PAMPA site.

Hey Crist, you're in luck! You could replicate the paint scheme that the Confederate Air Force used on their aircraft back in the 60's into the 70's. I couldn't find any shots of their P-47 from back then but here are a few examples of the general scheme they used. Copying the one from the Wildcat, and putting your AMA number on the fuselage actually wouldn't look too bad...
