Is this up north and spring hasn't sprung?  Or is it down south and summer is there? You guys are so lucky to have a site like that.  I like the scenery in the back ground. H^^

Whoah.  A local contest with some pretty heavy hitters in Expert! y1

We were down from normal due to the rescheduling, and didn't have most of the usual expert crew. We also got started at 8 and finished by 1:30 or so, both records for a WAM contest.

The "heavy hitters" didn't exactly distinguish ourselves, either. My first flight was way too slow and I had done my "special vision/reflex training" (i.e. played Gran Turismo 4 on the Playstation*) the previous evening and the combination was embarrassing. Dave had a very slow trending to bog slow, but handled it better so he was way ahead in the first round. Dave went even richer on the secon flight and ran out of gas in the 4-leaf. I at least managed to crank the needle in far enough on the second flight, and did a decent flight for "Napa Air". We ended up in a tie which was broken somehow in my favor. Jimby's motor was charging aggressively (even at ~85 degrees, which was a bit surprising) and while he may have had a good shot at us, it didn't work out. Paul flew his Skyray/20FP but had a fuel tank issue on the first flight, and had a little bit to squeaky lean on the second and didn't really reach his full potential. I sent him off with orders to make a different tank.

But most of the other experts didn't show up or didn't fly. Phil was there but he didn't fly, Ted was not present, and neither were Larry "Joey Jr." Fernandez, Jim Tichy, and the rest of the bunch.

* Nurburging Nordschlieffe+ Formula 1 car = lots of incredible twitchy vision training, and frequent "emergency" reflex actions required. The world seems like it's in super-slow-mo after that. There's a reason that they don't run F1 there any more.

SWEET, one of that all time favorite games of mine,,,,,
do you play with the control pad, or the wheel, I have the logitech wheel, its MUCH more interesting,, now to get a projector, and a racing chair,, ;)

so Brett, are you on the list for the new GT-5 on PS-3 yet? I keep telling LInda that I need a PS-3 so we can download movies from netflix,, so far she hasn't bit yet,, but I am still trying,,

Looks like it was a good time, Puyallup was also this weekend, beautifull weather, our scenery was some boring huge mountain in the background, and a constant stream of vintage aircraft landing and taking off, including a Stinson reliant, Stearman, Stinson voyager, Cessna 195, a Legacy or 3/4 mustang, a 3/4 Hawker Hurricane, and a HOST of others, all pristine and pretty,,
oh there was some great flying too

For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

I use the control pad. I am relatively good at it, and have at least one internet "record" - fast time at Sarthe II (2:35 something) and close on others (like the GT2 last driving mission at the the complicated test track - I want to say 4:38 and some have claimed 4:32). A challenge my brother brought up - Nurburging, Mercedes 190 Evoll (pumped to the max including nitrous) - try beating 6 minutes. I am down to 6:02 something and I am convinced it can be done.

The wheel is a huge improvement since you actually have pretty decent analog resolution, compared to the analog joystick. It's like flying an airplane with a sticky control system - move it a little, nothing happens, move it a little more, way too much happens.

But it is outstanding for stunt vision training. If you can keep concentration with the picture bouncing around like that, real life is pretty darn simple. Most of my problems in model flying center around being able to follow fast unexpected movements. And you can do it in the middle of the night if necessary. When I have been able to keep full concentration and no vision "skips" for an entire contest, I have never been beaten.
