Title: Just a quick mock up of my JET USA-1X
Post by: RC Storick on May 16, 2006, 10:58:21 AM
36 hrs into this project I have the basic kit cut and fuse together. It is best to gather all your parts in one place to see what you have and don't have.

This is the point I start to get excited. I like to mock the parts up an try to envision what it will look like when finished.

Looks very cool, Robert. Not much like a USA-1, but then, original is probably better. Quickest balsa cutter around, that's certain.

Looks really cool Sparky but what's taking so long? ;D
Seriously, It looks like another awsome model in the works. Do you suppose we can we see a pseudo military scheme on this one, like a cool 60's-70's type Navy scheme or something? I'll even say PLEASE... y1

Thanks Leester but I will paint everything on. Here's a pic of progress after 48 hrs of work. It is just taped together and mocked up. Have to wait on the engine to get here to finish the nose.

That is a sharp looking stunt ship already!

I somehow missed which engine you are planning to use.  (???)

Beautiful lines Robert.  In the last photo with the plane pieced together, I could picture a Batman motif with the right colors and trim.  Anytime we need you, we could just shine the silhouette into the night sky.

Thanks Zuriel but no Batman paint. I did get an idea today. I don't need the exact engine to shape the nose. I have a Super Tiger 60 I can set in the bearers for the center line and shape the nose. So when my engine gets here all I have to do is drop it in and drill the holes. That way I can shape the cowl as well.

With a airplane this size I am into weight hee bee jee bees. So once again the pilot has gone for a beer. The plastic pilot and canopy weigh 27 grams. The wood canopy I will be using weighs 10 grams and might loose some more. I would like to come out under 60 oz.

Robert,

Under 60 ounces?  Foam Wing?  I don't think so!  Well, maybe with a minimal type of finish?   ~^

My EXEL  was  just as  big  and  had  a  foam wing in it  and  weighed 59  ounces???
so that is  possible  , but there is  no  reason it has  to weigh that.  This  plane will carry more  weight  very easy

Regards
Randy

Ok here it is Sparky...
A grey Navy scheme with appropriate Navy lettering, stars and bars, panel lines etc. top and bottom, and RS big on the tail to look like some normal squadron markings or whatever. Maybe even in a style from your old group, (like the bicentennial scheme for an example?) or, like the U.S.S. Midway markings with the yellow/black sunburst tail like the old Phantoms had. With that type of scheme you could also fudge in some yellow and black on the wingtips and nose or, or... y1 y1 y1 ;D

Randy's "128 twin" sound good, but Randy is holding out on us. He is doing a mod on an IO360.. Lycoming 200HP... that should be great on those 25mph windy days at the Nats!

warbird

How about the Sundowners squardron from 1971 on the Coral Sea I think?
With that Jet look, a paint job off a Vietnam Era F4B would look cool!  The sundowners
had Shark teeth on the nose and the red/white sunburst on the vertical fin.
