You reminded me that I actually have one of these too... Mine's a bit different though... scratch built.

Flies well with a OS 15 LA, but will also take a 20 or 25.

I sent an original kit to Eddie at Lazerworks.com and he did a CAD file on it and cut a short kit with good wood. He has them for sale if you want one.

OK, flew it this morning. Plenty windy, handle spacing too wide, .012 lines 52 ft. (too big, going to Spider Wire), but it flew OK. Stable enough, but turns like a combat job. Only problem: 3 min. engine runs with the Fox on 1.3 oz.of fuel. New Great idea: I have an OS Pet .099 that is going on the scales and will be timed on 1.3 oz. fuel. It has to have better fuel economy, and if I remember correctly it weighs very little. Might be a winner We shall see.....

Scott, it you do this I wouls suggest dropping down to 45' lines. even then I do not think the Pet has enough power...but GOOD LUCK with it.

REVISION #1: Went with the OS PET .099 and it weighs the same, but has a muffler and, best of all, has a five and a half minute run time. APC 7-3 seems to have have enough power. Now to make a different handle and change lines......
The Bug- Juice green color was chosen by my wife..... not my favorite for sure, but it's growing on me. It's real hard to tell the color when it's on the roll in the store...

Everything except straight stock and sheeting . He said he has canopies and decals available too. All you would need is landing gear and controls.

I would suggest calling and talking to Eddie, he has more and there are more options than listed on the website.

In case anyone is planning to scratch build from Top Flite plans, there are some things that are not shown that you will need to figure out for yourself, such as formers, wing ribs, stab, and elevators.

Awsome little Jr! You might be able to eeek out some fuel economy with the engine you have in there now if it has power to spare (and it should on a 17 ounce frame). I'd do anything to avoid the Pet... Add a muffler and head gasket would be where I would start. That and if you are not already, drop the nitro to 5%. Might even go for a differnt prop and a 2-2 run. Even hobbled it should make way more power than the Pet. If none of that works but you like the power package as it sits, I'd look for a larger custom tank... just my .02

What's wrong with the PET? I was running the Fox 15 with a 7-4.5 at a medium 2 and it ran just fine, just ran for 3 min. If I add a muffler, then we approach the weight of the 10 I was originally going to use, but was advised was "WAY too heavy". There just isn't room physically for a much bigger tank unless I went to an external tank and that would look hideous. I made up some lines of 10# Spectra 50' long that I will try this evening (on another little 10 sized plane first!). They are .008 diameter and I think they will work just fine. I had the PET on the other 10 sized plane before and it did pretty good. I weighed it last night and it was 17 oz. too. If the PET isn't enough, next try will be the 10.

Perhaps I'm a bit confused. Isn't that a Pet-II in the pics? Pets were sport engines and had a little less power than the .10, but they were still good engines. What muffler are you using?

Yes, it is a PET-II with the original muffler. I think it was an accessory that didn't come with the engine. I flew it tonight in to windy of conditiond, but it did have enough power (5.0-5.2 lap times) on 50 ft. Spectra 10# lines. I tried a APC 7-3 prop and it spun up pretty good, but I will also try a 7-4 next. The engine still needs a little breaking in as it was new before I put it in another plane and flew it about 6 times. I was using 15-25 fuel and I suspect it may run well on 5 or 10% also. Will try also. I am also going to add a little tailweight to see if I like it better. But overall, it flies like a little Nobler, and that's not such a bad thing. I really want to try it on a real calm day.

Carried over from SSW. After looking at your plane I see you have already built it light. (this is good) as far as a 1/4 oz tail weight I would change props to a lighter one and muffler to a tongue type. 1/2 oz easy. I hope the CG is pretty far foreword. People say its no good in the wind. I say nonsense. Foreword CG offers good directional stability. To get the turn back work with flap and elevator ratios. As far as the load up in the wind you can reduce that with handle over hang. Pull over hang closer to your hand for less stick pressure.

When the "Pet" first came out, I ran both the two bolt and four bolt head versions. Somehow I missed the Pet-II so I have never run one. I did manage to latch on to a Pet-II "parts engine" years later. The runable Pets I currently own are the later ones with the drop-in liner, and I have one Max .10RC. None have mufflers.

If I remember correctly, I ran mostly 7x6 props using 5-10% nitro in small light planes with my Pets. We didn't use mufflers back then. I did not optimize prop size because my setup worked. My setup might not have worked with a muffler and a plane as large as the Jr. Nobler.

Let us know how it flies with the 7x4.
