Title: John Glenn
Post by: Larry Fernandez on December 08, 2016, 02:51:40 PM
I just read that John Glenn has passed at the age of 95.
Our country mourns the loss of a true "American Hero"

God Speed John Glenn, The country thanks you for your military service, your pioneering efforts in the space program
and as a Statesman.

I think it is truly amazing ...considering the abuse men like John Glenn put their bodies through that they lived as long as they did

I can only Echo Larry's fine sentiment

God Speed John Glenn, The country thanks you for your military service, your pioneering efforts in the space program
and as a Statesman.

Just think -
John Glenn, in his lifetime, flew/orbited the earth in our first Manned spacecraft design (Mercury) and our (as of today) last manned Spacecraft/Orbiter design, the Space Shuttle.
Rest in peace John Glenn, you had a GREAT RIDE!

Another phrase that is burned into history; "God speed John Glenn."  The Mig Mad Marine was another one of a kind, true American hero, that they don't seem to make anymore.
   I'll say it again.
  God Speed John Glenn.

Having spent the early part of my life (59'-85') in central Fl. I got to watch every launch from Cape Canaveral from the back door of my parents house. In grade school all the kids would purchase and wear on their shirts and jackets the mission patches that were available. John Glenn was certainly a hero to us FL. kids. The later Saturn V launches (Apollo missions)were the most spectacular. Those things would shake the ground and rattle windows. The last live launch I watched was the shuttle we lost right after lift off. I was 20 miles from the coast headed east on Hwy. 50 and watching it go up looking through the windshield of my car. My boss at the time was engineer in charge of the APU's and hydraulics on the shuttle. It took him quite a while to get over the loss.

Seems I remember something that was attributed to John Glenn.  I am paraphrasing here but it went something like, I think about riding that rocket out into space knowing that every part of it was built by the lowest bidder.  He was a TRUE American Hero and we desperately need more like him.
