Very bad news. John has always been an example to me for a shining. I am very upset and offer my condolences to relatives and friends from far abroad. Rest in Peace John. May the earth rest in peace.

Much enjoyed the opportunity to meet John and fly in his big backyard last season. He was an excellent example of someone who could form a vision and execute it. Control line flying as we know it at this moment would not be the same without his contribution.
A note from the Brodak facebook page follows below:
It is with great sadness, we announce
the loss of our beloved owner and friend,
John G. Brodak, who passed away today
with the love of his life Buzz, by his side.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please take a
moment to say a prayer for him in his memory. God Bless!
Rest in Peace John!

I never met John, but pretty much everyone who's been the hobby at almost any level over the last 25 years has heard of him. His loss is a blow for our little community. My deepest condolences to Buzz and the entire Brodak family.

I got to see John fly his Shoestring at the NATS. It was amazing. John gave me a lot of help when I built my LA-5 from one of his kits. It flew well and did well in competition. John will be missed by all who ever had any contact with him. May he rest in piece. My best to his family.

Never had the opportunity to meet John. Wanted to go to the fly in last year, but couldn't make it work.

This really hurts. John has been such a stalwart of the CL community for so long that it is hard to see where we go from here. Adding my prayers for Buzz and the Brodak family in these tough days to come.
Picture below taken just 3 years ago (I think by Bob Hudak) in front of the Brodak booth at Toledo show. Three of my favorite people, all back together again...
-
This is a great loss to the controline hobby.
Farewell, John.

Thanks for the picture Dennis. All were my heros. Yes John and I had differences but I still like to call him fiend. My prayers to Abuzz aand the Brodak family. :(

God Bless him on the upward way and God's every comfort and support for his Family. I will remember John Brodak and also think of him with heartfelt gratitude, all the more-so when building and flying.

When I started flying again thirteen years ago I began buying kits, arfs, engines and other things from the Brodak website. I enjoyed reading Control Line World and about the Brodak fly ins. John seemed like a good man who enjoyed his business and his life. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
-
Thanks for the photo Dennis, this just feels like a terrible loss to our community. But let's try to focus on how much his life enriched us all, and be Thankful for a very good man. Prayers for Buzz and the family. Godspeed John, you will be remembered!

I never met John, the closest I came was to attend last year's event but at the last moment, I couldn't be there. Some years back I purchased a kit and had some questions they said I should talk to John about but he was out practicing his pattern I was told. My goal this year was to finally attend and of course meet John. To lose such a champion is very sad for the control line community. My heart goes out to his family.

Well, this sucks.... But, he was in rough shape, so it's nice he's no longer in any pain. I never met him in person, only via phone and email. He was always super helpful!
-
Deeply saddened to read this. His reputation preceeded him. A great loss to the control line community.
My condolences go out to his family and friends.

FYI, according to an email moments ago from a person many of us know at Brodak's, they have noticed the technical problem with the website and have informed their tech support. They are confident their website tech will get everything running.

I first met John and Buzz at the First FlyIN in 1997. I had known of him previously but from the moment I finally met the Brodaks they've been dearest friends to Sondra and me. Although I never had a brother nor a sister, John and Buzz filled those two roles for me. I feel as if I have lost a close relative. He'll always occupy a big spot in my heart of hearts. Many of my fondest memories are from the FlyIN over the many years it ran. The most important aspects of a what a man leaves is the good he's managed to bring about. John has helped every one of us and will always be remembered as our close and dear friend.

Thoughts and prayers from our family for John, Buzz and the whole Brodak family. He will truly be missed by all of us. Ed and Terri.

So very sorry to hear this. Several years back I was looking for an ARF of some sort and had called Brodak. The lady I spoke with said they were out of stock and wasn't sure when they'd have more. I thanked her for her time and went on my way. A couple of days later, a Sunday I remember, our phone rang and my wife answered. She came to me with the phone and said, "John Brodak would like to talk to you." I was floored. He didn't know me from Adam, but followed up with me personally, on a Sunday afternoon no less, to see if he could assist me further. That's the kind of man John was. The world truly misses people like John Brodak when they're gone. Godspeed John, and prayers to his loved ones.
-
The first year I sent in my registration for the Fly-in John personally called me. I lived pretty close just an hour away. He asked if I wanted to come and fly with his club. Great guy! He will be greatly missed.

When I owned RSM Distribution although I competed fiercely with John he and I respected each other. John was a gentleman and certainly contributed a lot to the success of control line.
He will certainly be missed by all of us. Fair winds John.
-
The control line world has lost one of its most ardent and sincere supporters. Rest in peace, John.
My most sincere condolences go out to Buzz and the rest of John's family.

This is indeed sad news. Prayers for his family.
I met him once or twice at the Flyin. He was very nice. He left me go into his shop to work on a motor - a B40. He will be sorely missed.

I never met John, but his kits and readily available accessories were largely responsible for renewing my interest in CL about 20 years ago. Prayers for the family.

Really sad to hear this news. We will remember John when we first fly again as a group after Lockdown here in NZ. There is a saying that you really get to know how much someone was loved when they leave. Going by the comments on these pages and my own all too brief experience of the man, it is clear he was an outstanding leader in so many ways. There will always be a special circle of clear blue South Pacific sky in our hearts for you. Fly well John.
