John Brodak's WACO S.R.E.
« on: February 06, 2008, 06:20:21 PM »
I went up to PA. this past weekend to visit my 95 year old mother and got a chance to get in a couple of flights (thanks Joe Messenger for letting me use your Cardinal) and got a chance to spend some time in John's shop and shoot the breeze with some old friends.  John is working on a WACO so I took a few pics.  Hope you enjoy them.

Sam,

You're welcome (flying the Cardinal).  Always good to see you when you come home.

John's Waco is coming along nicely and should be a great looking plane.

P.S. I'll have a witch doctor put a bad engine run curse on all of your planes if you spell my last name wrong again!  It's Mess-I-nger darn it. . .

Take care,

Joe

Wow, neat Waco. But: You forgot to say what Waco. Sterling? Or has John Brodak repro'd this kit? I have one hanging in my hobby shop, fuse finished...Joe Pearson's wife Mary used to fly WAM Scale with one of these, 1978. Is this John's Waco? Or Sterling's? John's?

Hey, anybody ever pound a wheel pant out of aluminum? (or 'split' a real one?)
John's are capped just like the real thing...they will appear to be 'hemmed' around where the plug fits. Nice work. Servicable, fit just like the real thing. The 'seam' adds to the scale realism, as Hill Streamliners did theirs in this way. Gosh, I love this stuff!

Looking at the pictures it is definately not a Sterling kit.  I had one back in the early 60's I flew scale one time with.  Had Johnson 35 with Bramco throttle.  Remember those.  Did high speed taxi at the only scale meet I ever entered with it at Lawrence, Ks.  Had J-Roberts control system.  It did get me a third place trophy.  Don't want John to get big headed, but, that Waco is looking awsome.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

It is the WACO model SRE.

There is more to it than what's shown.

It will have all functioning lights. The landing lights will drop down from the upper wing just like the real plane.

Also, I will make a custom muffler for the RCV that will have dual exhausts as does the full size version.

I've posted a number of pictures in the scale section along with the muffler info.

Here are some more showing the overall.

The plane is absolutely stunning.

John is a WORLD CLASS Scale modeler...and his stunt background keeps the aeroplanes light, so that they fly well.
