Joe this past winter had the urge to build a profile. Joe wanted to use the LA 46 so he began to cut balsa,. The result is the plane you see pictured here. LA 46, 47 ounces. Plane got two flights last night, but not much was accomplished other then a couple of loops and trying to get the engine to run correctly. More test flights will happen in the future, and I am anxious to see how she trims out.

Joe is a craftsman of the highest order, even in comparison to the other magnificent craftsmen we have had in this event.

Very Nice, Joe can shoot down Jim Hoffmans USA-1 with the rockets.

Joe is working on painting the drop tank that will soon be on the centerline of the fuse bottom. It should look pretty cool. Joe is having a little fun with this one and doing some things he would not typically do.
-
That is very cool. I like it a lot. Immaculate craftsmanship.
-
As usual, anything Joe does is absolutely top notch! I had the privelege of seeing his shop a few years back and went home and cried in mine! It, too, was immaculate. Joe is exactly as Brett said.

The amazing thing about it is that the closer you look, the more incredible it is. Things you just wouldn't expect to be impressive (like the joint between the LE sheeting and the capstrips), are. I've been doing many and varied modeling projects over the years - 40+ years with pretty good success - and even with that, I see Joe's stuff and wonder "how the HELL does he do that?!".
I met Joe at a contest in Dayton in 1982, nice guy, completely unassuming. Then I spent some time looking at his airplane, and all I wanted to do was go stomp on mine, or hide it, so no one could put them next to each other.
There are *many* brilliant craftsmen in this event, and I wouldn't be willing to rank them, but Joe (along with Roy Decamara - look at his cloth hinges sometime, once again, how in the world does he do that?) is one of the short list of guys that first spring to mind when we are talking about "craftsmanship".

Brett, I know exactly what you mean. Often times I will visit Joe when he is building an airplane just so I can see it in the bare bones. His workmanship is impeccable. I have known Joe since about the age of 10, he and Leona are wonderful people. Joe freely gives of his time and his things to help out fledgling guys like myself. Brett, I know what you are talking about when you look at the planes these guys build, you really have to get close to appreciate the effort and skill it takes to accomplish these task. The only other person I have seen close to Joe is Gerry Phelps, he builds really nice planes as well.

Perfection......Very nice building skills ;D

Definitely. Joe is a MASTER craftsman.
Cycle 6 was badass.

Wow! Last time I saw this it was a pencil drawing. Joes usual best is no surprise here. H^^

Just spotted the photo of this in the Gallery and am really impressed! Any reports on how well if flies? And if plans might be available? Of course, anything I would build would look like something headed for a demolition derby if compared to the workmanship on the original ...

That's a great looking design. Um, Mr. Brodak...? S?P ;D

I remember flying in the same Ohio contest with Joe back in the early/mid 70's. Really nice guy, a craftsman and a superb pilot.
-
Don't tell Joe how outstanding that plane is. He might get big headed. LL~ LL~ It is one great looking profile and I love the looks of it. Looks all business. H^^

A few years ago I flew at the SAM Champs with Joe. After looking at his Classic model I had to move my lowly Magician to the other side of the circle. He is an artiste rather than just a builder of model airplanes, and a very nice guy to boot. There are a few that are so gifted and Joe is certainly one of the top.

Here are a couple of pictures my grandson took that day of Joe's immaculate Gypsy.

Wow! How can I contact Joe?

How did he get that color?
