Joe Nall Pictures.
« on: May 20, 2014, 11:49:10 AM »
Here are some of the pictures that I took at the Joe Nall. I did a very quick processing on them so they are not up to the standards I want but they will give you an idea of what it was like to be there.

Thanks
Derek

Will Davis giving a new pilot some lessons.

The second one is a crowd gathering to fly the trainer.

The man with the plan Mark Weiss giving some lessons. I think the girls outnumbered the boys this year.

Sorry for the double picture it would not let me delete it.

Notice anything unusual about the second picture?

I am building one of those air boats, I already bought the boogie board.

Derek,
Looks like a fun time and a nice place to fly.

Thanks for the photos.  My impression of the Joe Nall was that it was a big R/C only extravaganza.  Was this done as an invitational demo?

Not at all. The first pictures are of our very own control line circles, three to be exact. The new gazebo was built for us this past winter. This was our third year with circles on site and they have gotten better every year. Before that I use to come by invitation to fly noon demos on Friday, the biggest day of the week.

Last year we stopped counting at 600 first time flights. Many have returned with their own models this year. I am not sure of the numbers this time but I know that on Friday it was almost non stop training flights.

It looks as though there is a helicopter under the right wing panel.

Bingo! They did a demo together and I was certain that we would see the inside of that plane on a few occasions.

Pilot 100cc Extra 330Sc doing a demo with a heli. Still looking around the internet to find a video of that demo.

Hope I can make it to the event sometime soon.

If I make it through the Brodak fly-in the Nall fly-in will be next on the bucket list.   Those big planes sure look like the real planes.   Thanks for the pics.

Awesome paint job on the wing of the All American!  It looks like there are a couple of superchargers stuffed under the inner panels.  Best "curled ribbon" optical illusion work I've seen!  Who did it?

Hey Ted,

I painted the All American for Bob Shaw about seven or eight years ago (Dad built it). This was my first attempt at the "curled ribbon" effect, and I have to say that I was pleased with the results as well. I have often thought about trying to incorporate that effect into one of my real stunt planes, I just have never got around to it, like so many of my ideas... Thank you for the compliments, they are always greatly appreciated. I hope that you are Shareen are doing well.

What a beautiful field.
Here I am helping a young pilot to get his Ringmaster ready to fly. Thank goodness for Watt Moore's rolling hangar, or we'd never have gotten this plane rigged up to fly. It turned out to have a sweet running Fox 35 on it.

In the picture I'm showing him how to test the 4-2 break. This guy is a born pilot. With almost no experience, and never having flown a 35 size plane before, he flew several tanks out with nice landings in a pretty stiff wind.

Mark even gave me a green hat at the end of the day. How cool is that!
