Didn't want to get the TT thread off subject but thought some newcomers might no know the history of Joe's Ringmaster. This is a good place to start as it has an email I received from Dee Rice explaining how the 576 came into being.

Joe Gilbert and I built two Ringmaster 576s as a joint effort, I think in 2008?. Neither one of us really flew either one very much till Joe started bringing his out to the field a couple years ago. This year he took his to the Brodak meet and won Expert PA with it. He was getting comfortable with the airplane and knew how to make that LA 46 do it's job. I recently sold my 576 to Joe as I am having physical issues with my brain connection to my feet and will no longer fly in competition.

If Joe figures out a way to take the 576 to France he now has a backup

It may be of interest to know that about 100 kits have been made and built. Some of which went to other countries and at least two are flying in France. The first 50 were CAD controlled water jet cut and the rest laser cut. I built the prototype from plans and still fly it on a regular basis. The 576 was originally designed for a .40 size engine, but we discovered it was better suited to a .46 and we scaled it down to a 526 for .40 engines. Plans and laser cut kits and short-kits are available from Pat Johnston. It is easy to fly and it will do anything you can do........fun to fly. Pat also has it with more conventional wing construction, but I prefer the original Ringmaster look............so I build the built-up fiberglass covered leading edge separate, then build the wing with the original Ringmaster structural design. My prototype weighs 38 ounces, but most weigh in the low 40s.

Construction photos and written construction article are available. It was published in Control Line World in around 2008 and shows Bob Reeves holding his 576. Bob Reeves AMA number is 57676. How about that!

Robert Storich flew it at Memphis around 2008 and said he like it and ordered a pre-built composite leading edge, though (darn it) never built one. It had an LA .40 on it then, and was not near as good as with the .46.

I still have a Pat Johnston RM 526 to build....
I did build his typical Ring master S-1 Gold Kit ( every thing included) and know he does a great job of wood grain and weight selection as well as very well written construction details

Highly recommended kits if there is some new desire to play with the Bigger RMs like Joe G is campaigning

This 526 got mucho flights during the fly-a-thon. Dan Mosley put so many flights on it, big Joey just gave it to him. Dan is a retread, and just about put the 526 through the pattern by the end of the day. He'll have it down real soon!

This has probably been talked about and discussed for many decades. After reading all of the posts in this thread...let me bring it up again.
When Mathew Kania designed the Ringmaster, was it's outcome a "fluke," luck, just a "WAG" (wild ass guess) or a well thought out design with math, physics and a slide rule?

I can definitely supply plans, kits, or whatever for the RM576. Also there is a RM526 whichlooks and flies the same, but is better suited for the LA40 as Dee indicated earlier. Good thought for smaller cars and easier transportation efforts. Also have RM207, 307, S-1+P, 645, 800, 1000, & 1014.
I also have conversion packages for Electric use. All too fun. It was just a matter of time before the 576 was discovered in such a big way. Thanks, Joe.

I was one of those that built a 576 electric Ringmasters. Power is a Cobra 2826/10 swinging a 11x5.5 EP. Best flying airplane I have.

Hmmmm. Gotta be a little skeptical about this whole King of the Hill Ringmaster thing. It's not in-line and there are no visible VG's on it. Yet, even without John's bag full of AAAs for fuel one is supposed to be beating such state of the art creations! Say it ain't so, Joe!!!

Remember though. Joe uses an Oklahoma wind sock. A log chain. If it is standing straight out, but no links are blowing of it is a good practice day.

Also I have seen Joe fly many different at any contest or get together I've been to. If no body is in the circle you can bet Joe will be in it flying something. Now for a full bodied Ringmaster will todays numbers if Pat J. doesn't have one listed already.

Would you believe that is plan #119. Called the "Ultimate RM576". This is the designation for full bodied versions, also in the RM526 and RM645.
Never ending sourse of plans to draw. With well over 200, I do have a lot.

Pat, didn't Yvon Tarre in France build a take a part full body 576 and brought it to Houston one time. It has Been a while ago I bet De would remembered.
