I seem to recall this name from the past, possibly from the 50s or early 60s..
Gary or Jerry Cipra - quite a stunt flyer as I remember.
Is he still around? Active?

Gerry Cipra has quite a record at the Nats in the 60's.

As a Junior, placed 2nd in 61, 1st in 62, and 1st in 63.

As a Senior, placed 1st in 65, 1st in 66.

He won the Walker Cup in 62 and I believe the last Junior to do so.

He flew a Nobler in 61.  I am not sure what he flew in the later years.

I do not know of his activities since.

If I remeber right I think he gotwith the wrong crowd and got into trouble with the law.  Would love to see him start flying again as he was one of my heroes in the day.

I believe it was Jerry Cipra. I also believe he was a member of the Lakewood Flight Masters, Lakewood (Cleveland), Ohio. Same club that Jim Silhavy was associated I believe. You couldnt miss the stunters of the LFM because of all the beautiful finishes and the presence at the once famous "Higbee Model Show" that was sponsored by the Higbee Department store in downtown Cleveland. I entered in that show and just was amazed at the quality of the airplanes. I left for the USAF in 9/62 and lost contact with that group. Maybe Jim Silhavy can shed more light on Jerry Cipra.

After his Nobler Gerry flew the "Palomino" which was (I think) the same design as John Havel's "Folkerts Speed King", only without the scale paint job.  Palomino was tan with dark brown, white, & orange(?) trim.  Impeccably built & finished.  Gerry was an absolutely great flyer.

Not really trying to nit-pick, but the magazine coverage of the Nats at that time and the listings for the Walker Cup winners has his name as Gerry Cipra.

Those are the same sources & references I have - showing "Gerry".    Suppose we could ask "Fitz" to read the name off the trophy..!

Back to the original post, Gerry's father Emil was also a prominent flyer and phenominal builder with the Cleveland group in the early 1960's.

EDIT: found pix from FM article from the 66 NATs; looks like Gerry was flying a Nobler then, I'm sure he had the Palomino in 1965.
