The color can look pretty good, if you recall Dorothy Hammel in the Olympics.

Is this the "Bill Simons" Shoestring, (the red one) that I remember, or a new Shoestring.

The original post said it was a RSM Shoestring, which is a Bob Whitely design.  (Although I think I remember reading somewhere that Bob W. based the design off of Bob Hunt's Saturn.)

Edit: Yep - read it here: http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=8156.msg70329#msg70329

What I would really like is a 40 sized Shoestring. Would I be better off scaling up a Goldberg Shoestring, or scaling down a RSM Shoestring?

AutoAir is a water borne paint used by artists and car painters. I used their base coat sealer (White) and mixed the chartruse from yellow and green, 10:1. Check out www.autoaircolors.com, they have more info and pictures than I can list.

With all the discussion of the colour, is that more green than it should be?

I seem to recall that the paint used on the original was a standard Cadillac colour. Also, I think the instruction sheet for the Goldberg model says that a close approximation of the actual colour is 7 parts Cub Yellow and 1 part a green that I cannot remember.

Anybody have a Goldberg kit that they can check for us? I didn't scan the instructions after I finished with the Goldberg kits some years ago.  HB~>

Cheers

Geoff

For a .40 sized version, consider using a Cavalier wing...

Ward, not that I want to argue but given that the scale wing is Aspect Ratio 5.49 with straight lines for the LE and TE and simple radii at the tips, I don't understand why people mess about with compound radius tips.

It seems to me that the scale wing is close to ideal.

Cheers, Geoff

I got an old set of Goldberg instructions right here. It says Chartreuse (mix 8 parts cub yellow with 1 part cessna green) . Painted mine that way and I liked it. The original was painted a Cadillac factory chartreuse (1956) I think. Not an exact match to the Goldberg formula but close.

I shouldn't say this I suppose, but that has never stopped e yet.  Who says it has to be scale colors?  Of all the CG Shoestrings I have built, (six at one session) none have ever been the scale color.  The plane looks great to me. #^ #^ #^ #^ S?P H^^

I like it. The colors do work, particularly if you've owned a Kawasaki motocrosser..
Water based paint, I like that idea..
