Jim Walkers Birthday Event
« on: May 04, 2006, 06:58:45 PM »
This could be my NUMBER #1 fun thing I've done in control line.
Jim walker is a hero of mine. Along with Rodger Marris, Chuck Yeager, and the Rifleman.... Flying control line model's, playing baseball, flying Jets, and a TV hero. Can't get better then that!
Frank Macy you should be proud of what you put on for all of us supporters. Growing up Jim Walker was the man with the FUN. NO Nintendo, PS-2, x-box. Just the outdoors fresh air and a few kids having fun with a flying POWERED airplane. I flew planes from 9-9 during the summer. Lots of kids would rather fly then go home and eat dinner. If we crashed the PLANE we rebuilt the it and returned the next day ready to fly again.
I asked the Family to come out and watch me put on the "SABER DANCE" that Jim had perfected back in the early fifties. I wanted to put on a good performance. The Bi-Slob I used was my #2 Plane with a McCoy 35 for power. Conditions were perfect for "SLOBING".
I took off with a 15 foot roll and pointed the nose up a stood the plane on it's tail to start the saber dance. After 2 Min's holding the plane in the 15 foot take off area it was time to fly straight and level. I looked over at the family....and dog gone, the tears where flowing. After I landed I was greeted with the following.."THANK YOU I haven't seen that since I was eight." "WOW how did you do that" "My Grandfather did this?"
I can't take all the credit here. The Northwest Fireballs and the Northwest Firecats came out to put up flight after flight.. Leo Mehl, Are Zehner, Greg Hart, Ted Gritzmacher, Gerald Schamp, Jim Holmack, Richard Entwhistel, Quincy Whitfield, Frank Macy, Dave Schrum,...If I missed you so Sorry.
Thank you Evergreen Aero Modlers for putting this GREAT EVENT on.
OH...You got to see the A.J. Aircraft Exhibit. SO kool

Thanks you so much. Local 290 Pipefitter...I'm the only one that flys U-Control. (so far).
I'm pro Union and support ALL Trade's. Flying Control Line Models has brought me closer to my roots. Pampa Seems to be the "UNION" or fraternity of STUNT. Thanks for your support.

Yes what special event this was. You would of had to have been there to realize the history, past to present Jim Walker's influence's he had in this arena. Reminds me of the same with Howard Hugh's, he just had the finances to persue his dreams. And to be part of the same club he started, (Northwest Fireballs) is a privilege! I am surprised not seeing the higher ranked control line bodies there. And to top it off, having Frank Macy hand two of his older replicas of his control line arsenal's to me and say :here, go ahead and take them home and let me know how they fly". Wow emotional, that's a understatement. ;D b1

Frank handed me two planes to test and have fun with.
Today I flew the NEW Firebaby. WOW it flew so good. I flew the older design 1947-49 Firebaby. This weekend I hope to try the FIREBABY II 1950-1955. The Plastic fuse one's came out in 1957-1964. Jim Walker started so many things that I was not a ware of. First to have a plane with ailerons.
First to loop and outside loop
First to Saber Dance
First to fly FOUR PLANES at the same time.
