Hi-
I'm wondering if anyone has used the clip bender that Jim Lee sells, cranked down, and maybe with lighter wire, to make clips for 1/2A stunter use?
Please post your findings, and also what wire size you used, and how it worked.
Thanks!

It works just fine. I am out of town, so can’t give you the diameter I used, more info when I get home.

OK, Larry-
I saw in another thread where a guy used .025" and it looked like he used the Lee clip bender.

Yes. Plain 'ol Dennis Moran style bender (what Jim Lee sells, only homebrew), and 0.012" or 0.008" wire. If I were making a lot of them I'd make a smaller bender, but that worked superbly.

.008" wire? Seems pretty light. I think the recommended full size stunter wire Jim sells is .050" or about that.
I was thinking .032 or so to be honest.
I was thinking about the same thing with a smaller bender actually though. Maybe with a 1/2"-20 thread or some thing.

It may be the 0.012" -- but you definitely don't need 0.032, unless it's for speed or combat with the new screamer engines. What I hid was fine for the reed-valve 049 stuff I have. No, I didn't pull test. Yes, someone should. I haven't had a hint of problems, though.

These fishing clips are real close to what you want. There used to be two sizes, Small and Large, but both were rated at 25 lb test. It doesn't look like both sizes are still available. If both had the same strength, it makes sense to only make one size. I just don't know which size they still make, if only one. It's possible that a different source might carry both sizes, and it might be good to Google for Norman Fishing Lures. Hmmm. I did that. Click on the eBay link. :) Steve

Thanks for the links, Steve. Interesting.

Thanks for posting these!
Those are cool. Especially given that it is 10/pack for the same price as 2 each for the "official" clips.
I wonder how long/wide they are?

I've got some around here, but from memory, I'd guess 5/8" to 3/4" OAL. But, I don't recall if I got the Small or Large size, so there's not much point in measuring one, if (IF) I could find one. However, since I remember well that the SM and LG were rated for the same 25 lbs (correct or incorrect, as it may be), I probably bought the smaller ones. I know I only bought one size, and thought they were pretty cute for some model aeroplane purposes! y1 Steve
EDIT> If you're going to use these for 1/2A line clips, I'm certain they'd be fine, but please do your pull tests and all that stuff!
