Jim Lee 5 oz syringe

Last fall I built a Ringmaster with the plan to fly it in the Ringmaster contest at VSC. Yesterday I went out to one of the Phoenix AZ fields the to fly the plane for the first time.  When I tried to draw fuel from my one gallon bottle using the subject syringe all I was doing was sucking air. The plunger pulled out very easily and only pulled a dribble of fuel from the bottle.  It appears the O Ring is not keeping its seal.  Is there any way I can remedy the O Ring problem?  The last time I used the syringe was back in September at my home in Wisconsin. I contacted the two hobby shops in the area that I could find and neither carries syringes nor fuel bulbs.  All they have in stock is fuel pumps which I don't like.

I have had this syringe for a number of years and it has never failed me.

All help will be appreciated.

If you're in a real super-duper bind (like, if you want to fly tomorrow or Monday), then after you've sent Jim a check go to your local hardware store and buy an O-ring the right size.  It probably won't be exactly the right material, but it'll keep you in the air until your correct O-rings arrive.  It'll cost ten cents for the O-ring, and way more than that for the gas.

I finally changed out my two o rings after 4 years I leave about an oz of fuel in the syringes with the filler tube capped .it keeps the o rings from drying out
  try soaking the o rings in some fuel and see if it helps till the new ones come

I had a new syringe that was leaking and sent an email to Jim Lee and he said to put some fuel in syringe and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. He also said to remove the o-ring and take some 1/8" stripping tape wrap about 2 or 3 layers of tape in the groove of the o-ring and replace the o-ring. The stripping tape fixed the leaking problem. Over two years now with no problems.

I always keep just a tad of fuel in my syringe and store it so the fuel is on top of the o-ring.

Yep. I leave some fuel in. That keeps them working for years.

My 5 oz. syringe from J. Lee has lasted a long time.  I've used it for glo, gasoline, and diesel fuel.  Sometimes the O-ring gets stuck, but I now store it with the plunger pulled all the way out.  Seems to stay free that way.

I have been happily using Jim Lee's 5 ounce syringe for the last 8 years. Prior to that I was using the cheap 2 ounce syringes that seemed to only last one flying season before the plunger seal failed. If you need a quick source for a cheap syringe, before you can get a quality one from Jim Lee, then I would suggest checking out one of the agricultural farm stores (i.e. Farm & Fleet, etc.). They sell 2 and 4 ounce syringes for giving injections to live stock.
