Saw the World's Fastest Indian, and others

I went to the Dan Rouit Flat Track Museum open house Saturday and was suprised to see the Munro Special parked outside in the street. It is now owned by a couple who live in Los Osos, CA and they bring it to the open house every year. They fired it up once and I have to say for a 1920 engine it sure sounded mean.

Over 80 bikes in the museum, most of them flattrack or speedway bikes. A lot of bike history tucked away in that residential neighborhood, you could drive right by and miss it and if you weren't looking for it.

The first motorcycle race I ever saw was the Sacramento Mile, back in '64. After almost dying, flat track racing is making a strong comeback; I just might have to go back to Sacramento this September for the race.

Just to keep it honest, the first picture is a home made model engine in the museum.

Looks like I have a bad case of spider mites on my tomato plants. Does anyone have any tricks to get rid of them?

You might use the trick that was used in the movie to get rid of those pesky tomato plants.
He had an interesting way to mow the lawn. f~

That's the "other" Munro Special. Apparently he had several. (Google it) The first one is in New Zealand. Then there's the "Movie bike" with a 750 Ducati engine...

I believe this is the early version with the triple tail.

The one on display was not the first one he took to Bonneville, I assume that one was/is the original. As told by the owners it is a later one that set the record of 197mph. But I will not lay down my life to defend what they said. They did mention the movie bike by saying that Anthony Hopkins was to big to fit into any of the "originals", and so the movie bike was made big enough to fit him. The one I saw was really really cramped looking inside. The woman running the booth (about 5'4") said she could barely fit in. She also added that Burt wore a womans bra when he ran the bike; when laying inside his chest was directly over and resting on some framework just barely over the heads. The bra was his cushion.

Run through them naked every day, don't forget a stopwatch, if your skin gets red; you can be the fastest redskin! >:D

Wow. Sir Tony has a house in town and he is a short little guy. The bikes must be tiny.
