Here is my VSC entry this year. YES, I copied Bart's NATS winning paint scheme, but no, it's not exactly identical. Has over/under adj. leadouts. Dope color and urethane topcoat. 44.5 ounces. Brodak 40.

Sorry the pictures look a little washed out. The blue isn't really that light.

Thats gorgeous Clint. Should be a great flyer at that weight with the 40 on it. Have you flown it yet?

Nope, no flight yet. Weather hasn't permitted it.

VERY nice job on a very seldom modeled airplane. At 44oz it should definitely be a great performer when the B40 is running on song, which it should.

If you are a regular VSC'er, you may have known Jeff Welliver from Minneapolis, MN who also flew a Tempest (two actually) with B40's. It was an excellent combination, and he got a TON of mileage out of them.

Good luck with yours, she looks great and I love the "Period Correct" paint scheme. You've done the design proper justice.

I'd say Dennis is right, you've just put yourself on center stage.

Not easy, but just take a breath and tune and fly like any other day at your home field and you'll be fine.

I did meet Jeff Welliver a couple of times at VSC. We talked quite a bit about the Tempest and he knew I was planning to build one. We were hoping to get both models together for a picture (plus any other Tempests that happened to show up) but I guess that isn't going to happen now.

I just have to say it, can't bite my tongue any longer.

It is hard to believe that some want to eliminate appearance points. There is no way that a 10 pointer should be judged equal to your 20 pointer.

Even some of our overseas friends have mentioned that they are inspired by the beautiful American airplanes, inspite of the Yasenkos. (spelling?)

Right on Tom, I thought the same last night but refrained from comment. This model is a perfect example of why I think BOM and finish points need to remain as part of the overall competition.

I'm already guilty here, and I apologize, but let's please not turn this thread about Clint's wonderful plane into another debate.

Is it an RSM kit?

Is that a MAS 10-5 3 blade, and how does it work on the Brodak .40?

Norm, I didn't intentionally build planes from that club. I just build the planes I think are cool.

However, I was born in Orange County in 1969, so maybe there was a vibe in the air or something.

Yes Bill, This was an RSM kit and I used almost everything in the box. I had to replace one flap due to a warp and the canopy is from Bill Sawyer.
So far, the MA 3 blade seem like it might work, but I only have three flights on it so the jury is still out.

The Orange County Thunderbugs were a hot bed for C/L activity some VERY creative people in that club. Bart Klapinski, Jim Mayfield, Dale Kirn, Charles Mackey, Pat Collier and his sons Tom and Jim the list continues for another 100 folks or more - you can just imagine the creativity spurring more creativity. Some really cool airplanes came out of that club. I think the east coast guys also experienced these phenomena in their large clubs. I think I was very fortunate to be part of the Orange County Thunderbugs. I wish I had some of the drawings of Jim Mayfield’s airplanes his Adonis and Tornado stunters were some very beautiful airplanes.
